The Engineering Product domain exist to increase technology's capacity, by streamlining and modernising the banks engine. Our mission is to equip teams with the guidance, tooling and advice they need to deliver sustainable and scalable solutions, by offering engineering products built for the future.
The team builds and supports the tooling, automation, and common components that enables the wider software developer community at BNZ to quickly build compliant backend services adhering to our target state patterns, with common non-functional requirements taken care of. You will be challenged on a daily basis and have the opportunity to progress within the domain and wider bank.
This role can be based in Wellington or Auckland. It is a hybrid role with two days where you can work flexibly. Anchor days are Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as a Monday or Friday.

What are 5 day-to-day tasks the person in this role will complete?
Lead delivery of complex initiatives – anticipate dependencies, manage trade-offs, and ensure goals are met.

What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?
Building tooling, automation, and shared components that make it faster and easier for BNZ developers to create compliant Spring Boot services aligned with our target-state architecture.
Embedding common non-functional requirements (e.g., security, scalability, resilience) so teams can focus on delivering business value.
Supporting and empowering BNZ’s developer community as they build modern backend services.

What technical skills are REQUIRED for this role?
Must have:
Strong experience in Java and Spring Boot/Spring Framework.
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerised environments.
Building and consuming RESTful APIs.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Spinnaker).
Familiarity with messaging/event platforms (e.g., MQ, Kafka) and relational. databases (e.g., Postgres).
Familiarity with SOAP/Webservices for legacy integrations.
Desirable:
Exposure to TypeScript or front-end technologies.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.).
Strong collaboration skills in Agile and hybrid/remote environments.
Significant industry experience (typically 7+ years).
Banking or financial services experience.
