Professionally managing the collections and recoveries portfolio for Credit cards (including co-branded cards, private label cards), Home

loans (including mortgages and loan against property), Personal loans (under PFS) and Secured property loans through the development and delivery of effective collection strategies and policies and through continuous evaluation and enhancement of current processes and systems.
• Contributing to the growth and profitability of the businesses in INM through cost effective delinquent portfolio management, minimization of losses and through appropriate and timely feedback on credit policy and processes.
• Agree on debt management procedures with Group/ASP Collections & Risk teams and ensuring that all debt management policies, regulations, audit recommendations and key indicators are followed religiously.
• Proactively build a vibrant and effective all-India network of specialized resources including external Debt Collection Agents (DCAs) and internal tele calling at GSC and agency management resources. Managing performance of these resources to maximize their efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ensuring that collection and recoveries policies are TCF friendly and are based on sound ethical practices, which are consistent with banking and local legislation and that the staff imbibe the charter, deliver best practices and service excellence in line with the image of the group.
• To ensure that ample training is imparted to all staff and development needs are assessed on periodic basis.
• To manage operational risk, including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting.
• Implement and manage CCS change initiatives.
• Ensure all collection staff are adequately trained and have a thorough understanding of the group/region/country related documents/manuals

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas
• To professionally manage the end to end collection and recoveries portfolio for Credit cards, Home loans & Personal Loans
• To make real and positive contributions to the growth and profitability of the businesses in INM.
• To proactively build a vibrant and effective All India network of specialised resources.
• Implement & manage CCS change initiatives.
• Develop a robust agency governance mechanism to ensure that all agencies are compliant with internal guidelines and regulatory norms..
• PVC & UAR process implementation from a reputation risk standpoint.
• Implementation of all 1St LOD activities

Customers / Stakeholders
• Work jointly with Region and INM stakeholders in formulating, developing and implementing strategies within Debt Management.
• To have complete alignment with Regional and INM stakeholders on all key initiatives and rollouts.
• To seek requisite approvals from other units such as LGA and Compliance

Leadership & Teamwork
• To keep the team aligned to the vision, priorities, policies and strategies of the Bank
• To constantly upgrade talent in the INM collections team so as to have a best in class team
• To motivate and encourage staff to ask the right questions and add value to collection operations
• Encourage the staff to exhibit HSBC values led behavior.
• To drive the correct reward recognition structure for team

Operational Effectiveness & Control
• Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
• Implementation of Group Compliance Policy as applicable to the role and the collections teams across inhouse and external vendors adopt and imbibe our charter.
• Awareness of the operational risk associated with the role and the action to be taken to minimize the likelihood of operational risk occurring including risk identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting.
• Implement group standards to help mitigate conduct and reputation related risks.

Role Context

The unsecured portfolio is expanding with focus on new products and sourcing methods(digital) which will require the incumbent to develop collection strategies that are in line with the Risk and Profitability objectives of the annual and strategic plans, and are competent enough to meet business growth objectives. Further challenges involve the entry into RBB segment which is new to retail banking and may require different collection approach.. The jobholder must be aware of the latest industry strategies to ensure that HSBC has the competitive edge to the collections management.

The number intensive nature of the business calls for a dynamic capacity plan. The Debt Management unit today consists of 40 staff based in different locations in India and a dialer team based in Vizag. Managing performance of our staff and External Vendors is critical to the success of the department.

Weakness in the debt management process will adversely impact the performance and profitability of the business with a direct impact on the bottom line.

Management of Risk

The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation.

Demonstrate leadership on Regulatory & Compliance matters. Maintain awareness of operational risk and minimize the likelihood of it occurring including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting in accordance with Group Standards Manual, Risk FIM, & relevant guidelines & standards.

Internal Controls

Maintain and observe HSBC internal control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators. Foster a compliance culture and implement Group Compliance Policy by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Regional Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place and training is provided, and optimising relations with regulators
