Job Description

BGC Jane and Finch Club serves children and youth in the Jane and Finch and surrounding communities providing social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs. Your role as a Summer Camp Mentor will be to provide a safe and supportive environment for the program participants. This program is design for Pre-teen and Youth 12- 17years of age. Program components include education, recreation, social activities, sports, health and nutrition, mentoring and the arts.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize and lead a group of youth in a group setting
Ensure that you are creating a safe and enjoyable environment for participants
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Youth Program, ensuring every aspects of the program are functioning adequately.
Complete appropriate administrative tasks in a timely manner (i.e. attendances and head counts)
Plan, organize and deliver high quality safe and stimulating programs for all levels of participants.
Ensuring programs are safe, age/developmentally appropriate, non-competitive, inclusive, innovative and skilled based in nature.
Help to ensure the safety and security of the members and assist in responding to critical incidents as outlined in the Club’s policies and procedures
Participate in staff training and orientation sessions
Ensuring the safety and supervision of participants at all times by strictly following guidelines and procedures (i.e. head counts)
Dealing with conflicts and behavior management immediately using corrective techniques as discussed in training
Report to, and takes direction from Program Manager and Supervisors
Do other related tasks, as assigned
Maintain positive and professional relationships with peers, members, volunteers, parents and other Club members
Attend regularly scheduled meetings
Arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift.
Proven ability to manage and mentor youth outdoor leadership camp environment.
Outdoor Camping
One-week Outdoor Camping mandatory (Sleep away camp)
Qualifications

Educational background applicable to the position (asset)
Must meet all "Canada Summer Jobs" requirements including:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the
Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and
Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Experience working with youth 13 to 18 years old
Strong skills in one or more of the following areas: education, leadership, community-oriented, communication
Strong supervision and program planning skills
Good decision making and problem-solving skills
Current First Aid and CPR training (mandatory)
Police Reference Check completed within last 6 months (mandatory to obtain prior to start date)
HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development training (mandatory)

Contract Period: August 25,2025 – June 27,2026

Must attend mandatory training from August 25,2025 to August 29, 2025
Hours: 35-37.5 per week Monday to Friday looking for individuals available 5 days a week (mandatory)
