Job Description
JOB DUTIES: This position leads a Service Animation work group comprised of authors and engineers to complete various animations on assigned products. Incumbents are experts in product knowledge and product servicing procedures for assigned products and in the Animation and SIS Authoring process. Accountable for ensuring the work group completes the assignment on time, information is technically accurate and complete, servicing procedures have been verified and accepted by dealers/customers as Caterpillar's recommended "best" method for troubleshooting/servicing the product. Works with SID PLs/SMEs, Product Groups, dealers, and others to ensure appropriate strategies are established and service animation is provided. Incumbents guide the information development process, assist work group members in gathering information from various sources to ensure service technicians have the information that enables them to troubleshoot and repair company products.
The TIS Manager plans animation projects and coordinates with the Service Information Project Lead 1 to assign work group members and make specific project assignments to the work group members using appropriate SIS authoring Tools. Incumbents may lead any portion of a documentation project; however, they should expect assignments on complex systems or new technologies used for the first time on assigned products. Ensures work group members have the project and process knowledge necessary to complete their assignment; mentors work group members; schedules training; and may conduct formal training. May perform functions of Information Element editing or other Editor functions as needed.
Incumbents travel to customer and dealer sites, making frequent contact to observe practical usage of animation, identify improvement opportunities and assure information users are satisfied. Following NPI, incumbents are accountable for updating published documentation, informing other organizations when engineering changes affect their work, and assuring updated information is included in documentation revisions. Coordinates with training instructors to ensure materials produced by the work group are prepared properly for use as training materials.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Requires a four degree, preferably in an engineering or a service related discipline, and extensive product and service procedure knowledge plus 4-7 years in progressive technical information, product group service organization, or design engineering assignments to gain a mastery of complex repair process systems and technologies. Candidates with +-12 years progressive experience in technical information, product group service organization or design experience may be considered for this position. Must have, or acquire on the job, expertise in Animation creation process. Must be team oriented, able to master complex technologies (both product and process), have good interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a systems intensive environment.
