The World Bank is seeking a short-term consultant based in Mumbai to support agriculture and agribusiness interventions in Maharashtra. The State of Maharashtra’s Agribusiness and Rural Transformation (SMART) Project supports the Government of Maharashtra in enhancing and speeding up agricultural transformation in the state. The Project Development Objective is to support the development of inclusive and competitive agriculture value chains, focusing on small holder farmers and agri-entrepreneurs in Maharashtra.

Scope of work:

The consultant will be located in Mumbai and assist the state Department of Agriculture (DoA) in advancing implementation of selected capacity building initiatives as part of the SMART project, specifically focusing on digital agricultural initiatives, private sector linkages and job creation. Quarterly work plans and deliverables will be developed in consultation with the DoA.

Outputs:
• Work with technical consultants to facilitate interventions with the Market Intelligence Cell set up at the DoA.
• Track and report on jobs data from interventions supported.
• Assist DoA in advancing digital agriculture initiatives
• Work with DoA to advance priority initiatives.

Qualifications:
• Masters Degree in Economics, Public policy or Related field.
• Technical knowledge of agricultural sector.
• At least 3 years of work experience.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in executing initiatives / projects that interface with state / national government departments/ministries will be preferred.
• Located in Maharashtra

Duration of Engagement & Location:

The initial engagement of the appointment will be for 50 days in the year, with a potential for extension based on work program.

Consultation and Collaboration:

The STC will work closely with the World Bank officials, state nodal agency & associated departments, project stakeholders, and other relevant parties.

The STC shall maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information and documents related to the projects they support.
