Job Description
Work with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team on the shared full stack ownership of a collection of services and/or technology areas. Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services. Responsible for the design and delivery of the mission critical stack, with focus on security, resiliency, scale, and performance. Authority for end-to-end performance and operability. Partner with development teams in defining and implementing improvements in service architecture.
Articulate technical characteristics of services and technology areas and guide Development Teams to engineer and add premier capabilities to the Oracle Cloud service portfolio. Understand and communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes, and requirements of the service and technology stack. Demonstrate clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles. Act as ultimate escalation point for complex or critical issues that have not yet been documented as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Utilize a deep understanding of service topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations. Understand and explain the effect of product architecture decisions on distributed systems. Professional curiosity and a desire to a develop deep understanding of services and technologies.
A BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent. Identifies and implements complex solutions to knowledge of server hardware and software configuration, networking, standard internet services, scripting languages, cloud computing patterns, technology security and compliance. Experience running large scale customer facing web services. Identifies and implements complex solutions to understanding of load balancing technologies and experience with development in programming languages, databases and big data stores, and container technologies.
Work involves defining and documenting technical architecture of complex and highly scalable products. A minimum of 8+ years experience of running large scale customer facing web services.
Be comfortable with mission critical production issues and manage customer anxiety appropriately
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of Exadata, Real Application Clusters, Oracle databases and their respective patching processes
Knowledge of Oracle Database Administration (DBA) tasks and concepts such as gold image, patching, upgrade, migration, RU, RUR, BP, rolling, non-rolling, opatch, datapatch
Knowledge of Linux Administration and Storage including network storage (SAN, NFS, NAS)
Knowledge of network fundamentals such as IP, VCN, Ethernet, RoCE, TCP/IP, routing, HTTPS, DNS, load balancer, etc.
Experience automating, troubleshooting and management of Linux based infrastructure
Ensures system security with understanding of Infrastructure Network Security, SSH, Firewall
Ability to automate tasks using Shell Scripting, Python, Perl, Ansible
Knowledge of Oracle products such as:
Fleet Patching and Provisioning (FPP) a.k.a Rapid Home Provisioning (RHP), rhpctl is a plus
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is a plus
Oracle RAC database and Grid Infrastructure is a plus
Soft Skills
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a global virtual team environment
Preferred Qualifications
Cloud services management, monitoring, troubleshooting and debugging experience
Experience with build automation, continuous integration, or continuous deployment tools (CI/CD)
Experience with containerization technologies and modern tools such as Docker, Github, Jira, Teamcity, and Bitbucket
Experience with Virtualization Infrastructures such as KVM and XEN

The Autonomous Database Team is responsible for building the cloud service framework powering various Oracle Autonomous Database cloud services including Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP). The framework automates deployment, scaling and management of databases in the cloud. It is built on top of Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Layer. The autonomous database cloud service framework features APIs to handle all lifecycle management operations of databases, such as Provisioning, Patching, Upgrades, Scaling, etc.
Oracle Grid Infrastructure is portable cluster software that allows clustering of independent servers so that they cooperate as a single system. Oracle Clusterware also acts as the foundation to run the flagship Oracle RAC Database. Oracle RAC product is at the core of the enterprise grid software such as in the Database machine part of the Exadata family. RAC technology enables the Oracle Database to achieve its highest levels of availability and scalability along with extreme performance.
