A leading electric utility in the Southwest is seeking a Smart Grid Engineer III / Senior to drive innovation, automation, and long-range system planning initiatives. This on-site role in Phoenix, AZ is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong foundation in power systems, grid modernization, and advanced distribution technologies. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide technical engineering, design, economic, and analytical support for long-range smart grid system planning initiatives.
• Lead and support automation, protection, and grid modernization projects, including configuration, validation, commissioning, and operational integration.
• Conduct and support load flow analysis, short circuit studies, state estimation, and distribution operations assessments.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align technology solutions with business and operational requirements, supporting pilot demonstrations and emerging grid technologies.
Preferred Technical Experience:
• Familiarity with reliability and power quality technologies (voltage regulators, capacitor banks, reclosers, line sensors, dynamic VAR control, SCADA-controlled devices).
• Experience with systems such as ADMS, CYME, OSI PI, IBM Maximo, PowerBase, SCADA, DNP3, and cellular network protocols.
• Working knowledge of distribution system modeling, automation, and advanced grid communications.
• Strong analytical mindset with demonstrated ability to think strategically and drive innovation in utility environments.
