Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting (Insurance)

Our Client:

We're working with a well-established Canadian organization in the financial services sector, known for its strong culture, national presence, and commitment to community. Their finance team plays a strategic role in supporting business decisions, driving innovation, and ensuring regulatory compliance. They're looking to add a Senior Accountant who can step into a key reporting role and help lead process improvements, while mentoring junior staff and contributing to larger finance initiatives.

Principal Tasks and Responsibilities Include:

• Manage the financial reporting cycle for several legal entities (P&C focused) - including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close

• Prepare complex journal entries related to reinsurance, pooled/segregated funds, and actuarial estimates

• Review and analyze reporting packages to ensure accuracy and alignment with IFRS

• Support quarterly and annual regulatory filings (OSFI, provincial regulators, Statistics Canada)

• Collaborate cross-functionally with teams in reinsurance, actuarial, and investment accounting

• Act as a go-to resource for technical accounting matters and mentor junior team members

• Lead or support process improvement initiatives across the financial reporting function

• Participate in special projects or ad hoc reporting requests as needed

Qualifications and Pre-requisites:

• CPA designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA)

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in financial reporting or accounting

• Insurance industry experience (P&C or Life) is highly preferred

• Strong working knowledge of IFRS and GAAP

• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to investigate and explain complex variances

• Advanced Excel and solid experience with financial systems/tools

• Strong communication and relationship-building abilities

• Compensation: $95,000-$110,000 + annual bonus
