Position Summary

TSOS is seeking a passionate Social Media Manager/Content Strategist to lead our digital advocacy efforts and increase our audience. This position will play a key role in the launch and execution of our new storytelling initiative and is critical to delivering our stories and information to as wide an audience as possible and mobilizing public support on behalf of vulnerable populations, families and individuals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Content Creation and Community Building:

Manage daily social media presence across Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, and LinkedIn

Create engaging posts, graphics and short-form video content using TSOS content and advocacy messaging

Guild and nurture online communities of supporters, volunteers, and allied organizations

2. Campaign Management:

Plan and execute advocacy campaigns around specific projects, stories or policy issues

Collaborate with team members to amplify time-sensitive content and issues

Track and analyze social media metrics to optimize reach and engagement

Manage relationships with influencers and advocacy partners

3. Strategic Communications and Crisis Response:

Develop and execute rapid-response social media campaigns for families and individuals facing detention or deportation threats

Create compelling content strategies that humanize policy debates and shift public opinion

Monitor social media trends and news cycles to identify advocacy opportunities

Coordinate with partners and family advocates during crisis situations

4. Leadership and Organizational Development:

Attend Executive Committee meetings bi-weekly and provide regular reports to TSOS leadership on social media performance, campaign outcomes, and strategic recommendations

Mentor and develop youth and interns interested in content creation and digital advocacy

Lead content strategy initiatives independently while collaborating effectively with organizational leadership.

5. Team Collaboration:

Work closely with fellow team members to ensure coordinated program delivery

Participate in weekly team meetings and monthly all-staff meetings

Share resources and best practices across teams

Support crisis response efforts as part of unified team approach

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

2+ years of social media management experience, preferably in nonprofit or advocacy settings

Strong writing skills and ability to tell compelling human stories

Proficiency with major social media platforms and scheduling tools

Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite preferred)

Demonstrated leadership experience with ability to work independently as a self-starter

Understanding of social media analytics and optimization strategies

Experience mentoring or training others, particularly youth and young adults, in content creation or digital media

Strong judgment and decision-making skills, especially regarding sensitive content involving vulnerable populations

Experience with crisis communications or rapid-response campaigns

Preferred Qualifications

Background in immigration advocacy, refugee services, or human rights work

Experience working with trauma survivors or vulnerable populations

Bilingual capabilities

Knowledge of media relations and press outreach

Familiarity with advocacy campaign strategy

Deep empathy and cultural sensitivity when working with refugee families

Natural leader with ability to guide and inspire others while maintaining collaborative approach

Ability to work under pressure during crisis situations

Strong ethical judgment around privacy and safety of vulnerable individuals and organizational representation

About Their Story Is Our Story

Their Story Is Our Story (TSOS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting and sharing the stories of refugees to raise awareness, foster empathy, advocate for refugee rights and move people to act. TSOS is launching an innovative program to protect families facing deportation threats through the power of storytelling. The project will initially pilot with Afghan families and, once established, will be expanded to other vulnerable populations. Within an 18-month pilot period, TSOS intended to train 250+ Afghan families to share their stories, mentor 120+ youth content creators, and build a rapid response system for families in crisis.

Note on Funding

This position is funded through a dedicated 18-month grant. Continuation beyond June 2027 is contingent upon securing additional funding, which will be a priority throughout the project.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $29,120.00 - $35,360.00 per year

Expected hours: 20 per week
