Social Media, Marketing and Communications Specialist
The Career Education Council is looking to grow our team.
We are currently hiring based on anticipated funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program. Certain criteria will exist.
Fixed-term contract 8-12 weeks
21-35 hours per week, to be determined based on funding guidelines.
Hybrid, based from your home office.
Frequent travel required within Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin.
We are looking for an individual to join our team thanks to funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program with a focus on amplifying our programs and events on social media. You will not only create and schedule content, but you will be out in the field gathering the pictures, videos and testimonials needed to tell our story.
You will bring experience in content creation, scheduling, video editing, community engagement, gathering feedback, curating testimonials and more.
You will adapt quickly to our hybrid team environment and will hit the ground running when it comes to amplifying our story on social media. You will also bring a flare for online engagement and will get us connected to our supporters and event participants through social media platforms.
Must have
- You have roots in Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin.
- You have reliable transportation and the ability to travel within the region.
- You have a home office space with reliable internet.
- You are tech savvy and able to learn and thrive in a work environment based on both using and teaching technology.
- You are punctual and dependable.
- You can consistently represent our organization and our partners with utmost professionalism.
- You are comfortable interacting with your team, community partners, employers, and youth on virtual platforms.
- You are comfortable interacting with the above over the phone and face to face.
- You are to start by the end of April (sooner is ideal) for a regular schedule of 3, 4 or 5 days per week (Mon-Fri +:00-4:30) - with occasional variation in schedule to accommodate meetings, events and other bookings.

- You have skills in video and photo editing.
- You have skills and experience in social media content creation.
- You have knowledge of high school programs such as OYAP, SHSM, Co-Op
- You are a local high school or post-secondary graduate (Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin)
- You have experience representing an organization at events.
- You have experience in volunteer coordination.
- You are confident with outreach or sales using different methods of communication – LinkedIn, Phone, Email, Zoom.
- You bring an understanding of branding concepts in marketing design.
- You demonstrate proficiency in Canva design and possibly other design software/platforms.

Possible Responsibilities (depending on which portfolio you are hired for):
Contacting potential businesses and individual professionals to secure their interest in involvement in our organization's programs, initiatives, and projects.
Visit identified workplaces across Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin to capture photos and video footage for storytelling and social media.
Book consultations with employers to share information about how they can get actively involved in CEC and partner events and programs that provide opportunities for youth to gain experience, skills and insights about the workplace.
Develop and maximize our existing projects and programming by networking, marketing and establishing partnerships with community partners, employers, individuals and interested volunteers.
Coordinate CEC attendance (booths, staff, volunteers) at various events across the region.
Coordinate CEC volunteers for events, workshops, other.
Work with employers, post-secondary contacts, professionals and various volunteers from start to finish to ensure that their experience with getting involved and contributing to our organization is seamless. This is a virtual position that requires access to a reliable computer, stable internet and a workplace free of distractions. Zoom will be required.
Program and resource development
Event planning
Sales and networking to maximize annual activations and subscriptions.
Communicating about annual activation fees, tracking replies, billing, providing agreements.
Outreach to specific sectors, employers and/or volunteers to secure interest and participation in events, programming, and resource development
Relationship management and related tracking.
Benchmarking, goal setting and providing status updates to the CEC team.
Maximize all areas of the resource hub by soliciting annual activations, subscriptions, and volunteers.
Contact and connect with employers, post-secondary institutions and professionals
Create, update and maximize tracking tools (Microsoft Excel, etc)
Pull and refine reports from the resource hub.
Connect with all interested career speaker volunteers to review terms and expectations.
Successful applicants will be contacted with specifics regarding contract length. *Applicants from Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin regions are preferred.
Hybrid work: Our current openings are positioned to be 50-+0% remote, as attending some in-person events in the Guelph region is occasionally required. One of our positions that includes local videography will include more travel within the region than the others.
