Social Media Strategist
Position Summary
Red Deer Polytechnic is looking for a full-time Social Media Strategist who would be primarily responsible for the daily management of Red Deer Polytechnic’s institutional social media accounts, promoting brand awareness of the Polytechnic through strategic and creative content posted to social media.
The Social Media Strategist works with Marketing & Communications team members and with content experts and creators within the Polytechnic’s Programs and Service Departments (Requesting Departments) to create persuasive content targeted to engage current and prospective students, partners, donors, alumni, and community members.
Position Responsibilities
The Social Media Strategist increases the visibility of RDP’s programs and services through a writing style well suited to individual social media platforms, giving voice to what makes RDP a vibrant post-secondary institution.
Social Media
Daily management of RDP’s social media accounts. Respond in real-time to questions and concerns posed in social media, working closely with other Departments to provide timely, accurate, and helpful answers and information
Creation and management of a social media editorial calendar based on short-term and long-term strategies as determined by the department and RDP’s strategic plans
Integrate Polytechnic’s existing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Threads); increase the platforms used and develop a content strategy specifically for social media
Work closely with Marketing and Communications team to ensure that social media content is fresh, valid, frequent, and engaging (based on unique attributes of individual social media platforms) and follows RDP’s Social Media Policy and Guidelines.
Investigate and adopt new and emerging platforms as appropriate for the Polytechnic
Create social media content with consistent brand voice to engage and respond to followers on an ever-growing network of social media channels.
Expand RDP’s social media presence strategically by working with Schools and Services to look at social media opportunities
Share social media best practices and assist in training of social media platforms to other Polytechnic areas, such as Schools and Service departments
Measure effectiveness and impact by monitoring comments and audience growth; analyze, review, and report on effectiveness in an effort to maximize results.
Communications Strategic Planning & Tactical Implementation
Support and advise internal clients in the development of communication strategies and tactics that support the overall strategic direction of the Polytechnic
Develop concepts, develop key messages, write copy, and deliver polished messaging to engage and persuade internal and external audiences on multiple platforms (with strategic focus on creating engaging content that follows unique attributes of each social media platforms, but that can also be used in other communications tactics)
Support and advise Marketing Communications Strategists and Polytechnic Programs and Service Departments (Requesting Departments) to share key messaging about how best to communicate ideas using different platforms (primarily social media focus) with internal stakeholders
Write high-impact narrative that tells the success stories of the Polytechnic
Copy editing and writing as needed by M&C team
Ensure copy for collateral material has consistent tone and style as per RDP brand and style guidelines
Interact with team members and requesting department to understand business objective and target audience demographics
Required Qualifications
Two years of post-secondary training in Communications, Marketing, Digital Marketing or Public Relations or related field.
2-3 years related experience
Gift for conceptual thinking and being able to translate concepts into creative and effective messaging
Creating and managing corporate social media accounts
Demonstrated enthusiasm and history of professionalism on social media sites (personal and/or professional)
Experience managing a brand’s social media platforms, including the integration of tools and third-party applications
Proficiency in use of Social Media platforms, especially Facebook, Twitter Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Threads
Demonstrated ability to write strong, concise marketing copy; exceptional oral and written communication, editing, organizational and interpersonal skills; comprehension of data-driven strategies and capability to translate those into customer-friendly copy; eye for consistency and strong attention to detail
Understand the importance of maintaining consistency in brand voice and tone across all related marketing communications
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize workload, meet aggressive deadlines and attend meetings
An understanding of how social media and interactive communication platforms fit into the marketing plan and can drive student enrollment and retention
A positive attitude at all times particularly when representing the Polytechnic online and a high regard for reputation management
Experience working with photography and working knowledge of videography
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Marketing or Public Relations or related field.
Professional designation in social media an asset
Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), and/or International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is desired.

Additional time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays.
Eligibility to access the above mentioned benefits dependent upon the AUPE Collective Agreement and related RDP policies.
