The Selected candidate will work with a highly motivated team involved in development of complex embedded solutions. The candidate will join with our Bangalore development center and will be part of NAM product development team in Bangalore reporting to PM of the Technology Centre.


ROLE : Software Architect:

This position is for a highly motivated, energetic Software Architect who will develop safety critical signalling solutions for Train control systems (onboard, wayside).


OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

As a Software Architect, you will demonstrate that a vital and non-vital software component fulfils its intended use when placed in its intended environment (real or simulated). You will interface with System, project, V&V and Quality teams to meet QCD commitments as per the project needs. Embedded software system techniques implemented in C or C++. Development of embedded applications in real time operating systems (RTOS) is a plus. Our programs employ V-model or Agile development process. The candidate will lead software architecture, design, implementation, unit test and support system testing, deployment, field testing, safety, and quality.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical leadership to team working on development of software solutions for Freight and Mining signalling products.

Deliver end to end software deliverables such as software requirements specifications, software architecture & design documents, software executables and manuals.

Work closely with Systems Engineers to understand operations and translate them into clear software requirements.

Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams located internationally and development centre partners.

Lead and/or participate in technical reviews, SW phase reviews, gate reviews, quality, and safety reviews.

Work with a field support team to diagnose customer issues and quickly resolve issues.

Follow the Quality Management Standards and necessary vital software design standards (Applying required processes and standards).

Keep a strong link with the software developers, hardware designers, Reliability and V&V departments, through the whole software design cycle.

Contribute to continuous improvement ( Return on Experience process, …)

Contribute to standardization by reusing existing solutions or by implementing reusable solutions, including COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf).

Promoting the Alstom Code of Ethics and adhering to the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Coach resources from his / her team when they request support and continuously develop their technical and design skills.


EDUCATION:

Bachelor/Post Graduate in Engineering – IT, CS, ECE & EEE or Equivalent


TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Mandatory:

10+ years of extensive experience in design & development of software solutions in complex embedded systems.

Expertise in C/Embedded C, C++, and any scripting languages like Python.

Expertise in embedded software development on Linux or any RTOS platform.

Expertise in Linux platform, development of vital systems.

Expertise in Embedded communication Protocols- TCP/IP and network services.

Deep Knowledge of Standards: CENELEC SIL4 or DO178 or equivalent.

Experience on programming with Microcontrollers.

Strong Problem-solving aptitude.

Desired:

Rail industry background is huge advantage, and similar safety critical industries is desired.

Exposure to cyber security requirements, OS Hardening, vulnerability analysis of opensource/Linux software components.

Exposure to board bring up, Linux or OS driver development or debugging.

Exposure to networking concepts, understanding of the Linux communication, IPC stacks.


BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES:

Demonstrate excellent communication skills and able to guide, influence and convince others in a matrix organization.
Be Innovative and demonstrate to peers and implement in creation of Reference Libraries, reusable codes, and model based developments.

Team Player with prior experience in working with European and USA customers is desired.
