Manager – Application Development
The ideal candidate for this role has managed a small team of software developers after serving as a technical lead. This position will oversee development of applications that manipulate data for presentation to an end user. The team will develop software primarily in Javascript and Python, so familiarity with these languages is desired.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the entire SDLC, including coding standards, code review, source code management, build processes and testing.
Partner with Product Management in leading a team of software engineers responsible for the design, development, testing and deployment of applications and features.
Responsible for effective execution of a continuous integration / continuous deployment pipeline by all development team members.
Drive and manage the defect triage process. Represent the development team in project meetings to ensure efficient testing and defect resolution.
Grow the Application Development Team by hiring as well as developing/mentoring engineers within the existing team.
Collaborate with Product Management on release, sprint planning efforts and prioritization of tasks for the Application Development Team.
Work with the documentation team in developing online reference material and appropriate documentation for developed features.
Qualifications:
Significant leadership experience managing highly technical teams.
Five or more years of work experience in a software company.
Thrive in a fast-paced environment, willing to dive deep and get things done.
Demonstrated project management experience.
High level of expertise in agile software development.
Good listening, explanation and writing skills in English.
Extensive software design and architecture skills.
Thorough knowledge of data structures, algorithms, profiling/optimization, and object-oriented and functional programming.
Strong programming skills, ideally in JavaScript and/or Python with experience in associated frameworks and libraries; Node.js, React, Vue, Backbone.
Significant experience with API integration and testing.
Significant experience with SQL and NoSQL data stores and schema. MongoDB experience strongly preferred.
A disciplined approach to testing and quality assurance.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field desired. Advanced degree preferred.
