The Smart Home GUI team’s mission is to offer customers a world class experience on touch-and-screen-based devices (e.g., Echo Show). Our products complement the Alexa voice experience by giving customers quick and intuitive ways to interact with their home during moments that are more suited for touch and screen-based interactions.
Key job responsibilities
As an SDE on the Smart Home GUI team, you will develop APIs, and high-scale services to power GUI experiences across a variety of touch- and screen-based surfaces. Your work will span enabling consistent experiences for device enumeration, control, status, as well as offering services such as Hunches and Guard on GUI surfaces. You will have the satisfaction of working on a product your friends and family can relate to, and want to use every day. Like the world of smart phones less than 10 years ago, this is a rare opportunity to have a giant impact on the way people live.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent
• 2+ years of backend and/or full stack development experience
• 2+ years of in system design and functional or object-oriented programming
• 2+ years of with the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Java, Javascript, C/C++, Objective C, Python) and open-source technologies (Linux, Spring, React, PyFlask, etc)
Preferred Qualifications
• 5+ years of as a full stack and/or backend development experience
• 5+ years of experience with backend services in the cloud.
• Experience building solutions for home networks, IoT device and cloud systems, context-awareness, pervasive computing, or home/industrial control systems.
• Experience building mobile or web frontends, using React or ReactNative.
• Experience working with modern tools for big data processing and scalable machine learning (e.g., AWS, Kafka, Kinesis, Apache Spark, Hadoop, SQL, NoSQL).
• Experience defining and championing best practices across a software team.
• Comfortable presenting to senior management, business stakeholders, and external partners.
