We are currently looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate is excited about the incredible opportunity that cloud computing represents, and is passionate about delivering high quality services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities can shift fast. As a member of our team, you'll work alongside engineers and leaders, refine product requirements with product and program managers, define architecture, and be a leader in the implementation and launch of software.
All team members actively participate in product definition, technical architecture review, iterative development, code review, and operations. Along with this, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with enterprise customers to ensure their needs are met - clear, professional communication with teammates and customers is an important part of the job.

Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Key job responsibilities
Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.
Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.
Create solutions to run predictions on distributed systems with exposure to innovative technologies at incredible scale and speed.
Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use.
Design and code the right solutions starting with broadly defined problems.
Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software.
A day in the life
An SDE on the AWS Kinesis Data Streams Storage team will get the opportunity to work on a variety of problems and domains, from designing and developing new distributed systems to improving and operating existing massively scaled systems.
About the team
The AWS Kinesis Data Streams Backend Storage team owns the core storage layer that persists all streaming data moving throughout the Kinesis service. Our team is responsible for existing technologies as well as the future direction of Storage in the AWS streaming domain. We benefit from getting to work with a mix of both internal and external customers, as our service is key to many cloud-native architectures.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market.
