Software Development Manager - 3D
At DNEG we are looking for a Software Development Manager, who will report to the Director of Product Development, to lead and grow the 3D domains within the software Product Development department. The ideal candidate will have previous hand-on experience in C++ and/or Python, be knowledgeable in the 3D domains (e.g. Build, Lighting, FX etc) and have a strong desire to steer their career towards management.
You will be a major contributor to the development team by adopting the role of Product Owner for the products within your domains. You will engage with key stakeholders for your product line to understand requirements, allowing you to shape roadmaps that service the Feature Animation, Television and VFX divisions. With the aid of your teams, you will lead the translation of those requirements into user stories with clear acceptance criteria and timescales. Your energy and enthusiasm will be vital in maintaining momentum, ensuring your teams are continuously delivering outstanding technology to artists and TDs, and partnering with programme managers and trainers to evangelise your products.
We will need you to collaborate with our talent acquisition team to grow a global talent pool of software developers for each of these domains. As we scale, you will use your judgement to identify and recruit team leads, and help with the onboarding of additional managers for Product Development. The members of your teams will look to you for strong leadership and mentorship, to build morale and camaraderie, and to help them maximize their potential. With support from the Director of Product Development and department managers, you will be a line manager conducting performance reviews, resolving conflict, and developing careers.
Your experience will be drawn upon to help implement and promote best practices in all areas of the product development lifecycle, including design, coding standards, quality assurance and documentation. As an Agile practitioner, you and scrum masters will collaborate to ensure the team maintains a disciplined approach to software development.

Must have:
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant professional experience
• Proven track record in software development applied to 3D disciplines
• Ability to engage with technical artists to gather requirements and define projects
• Ability to define, execute and deliver new products
• Working experience in the Agile Development model
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Passion for product development best practices
• Forward thinking and the ability to balance immediate and longer term priorities
• Previous experience managing a software development team
Nice to have:
• Certification in product ownership, agile methodologies or project management
• Previous experience managing subordinate Supervisors and Managers
