Job Description Summary: What you need to know about the role- This is a backend software engineering role in a Java tech stack. In this role, you’ll be working with a set of applications that utilize relational databases and message queues in highly performant payment processing systems, creating new features and providing support and maintenance for existing functions. Meet our team We are the Loyalty and Rewards Acceleration Platform (LEAP) team, and we handle the creation and processing of rewards campaigns. As an engineer on the LEAP team, you’ll work on highly impactful and visible projects that enable PayPal to provide more rewarding experiences to the world. This is an impactful role on a highly impactful team – LEAP is the central engine for providing rewarding experiences for all of PayPal, and this team’s work connects to a wide variety of other teams within PayPal. The rewards domain is one of PayPal’s major focuses, and the projects you’ll deliver in this role will help connect systems together in new ways and enable PayPal customers to take advantage of rewards – both shoppers and merchants. Your efforts will directly contribute to better functioning of our rewards processing systems, as well as exciting new features.
Your day to day
Leverage your expertise of Java to design, develop, test, and release software.
Work on product features in a collaborative environment, but also be able to drive feature development and troubleshooting without guidance.
Engage in discussions about the work we do and how we can optimize it, including providing design insight and code review feedback.
Handle inquiries from rewards platform stakeholders and respond to service interruptions as part of our support rotation.
What do you need to bring-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
3 years of software development experience with an object-oriented programming language comparable to Java, C++, Python, C#, or Ruby.
Knowledge of data structures, object-oriented design, algorithms, exception handling, and troubleshooting.
Experience working with large-scale, highly available, and distributed systems.
Experience developing automated unit, integration, and functional test suites.
Experience writing SQL and implementing database design.
