Department Overview
The Cloud Platform Engineering Site Reliability Engineer team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure and platform services, in support of Motorola Solutions’ public, and hybrid cloud-based solutions for public safety customers.
This team is part of Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure to build at scale.
Job Description
The Cloud Platform Engineering Site Reliability Engineer team is responsible for:
Design and implementation of the continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline into multiple public cloud regions
Development and operation of common platform services that can be leveraged by our solutions moving forward
Overall reliability and security of these services and the environments they are run in
Monitoring and support for these platform and infrastructure services, as well as metrics collection and reporting related to them
As a member of this team, you will be a key contributor to product development activities in a geographically dispersed cross-functional team (different time zones). These teams are developing frameworks, services, tools, and processes to support other Motorola Solutions' engineering teams as well as deliver solutions to our customers. You will be working on a high-velocity, results-oriented team that leverages cutting-edge technologies and techniques. The right individual will be motivated and will have a passion for automation, deployment processes, and enabling innovation. Your efforts will help to shape the engineering culture and best practices across Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise organization.
Responsibilities will include:
Design and implement services that save lives (literally)
Define and meet scalability, availability, security, and performance goals
Research and experiment with key technologies, architectures, and standards
Assist with supporting Production systems (includes troubleshooting issues and aiming to resolution)
Understand complex technical details and build test methodologies for them
On-call work are occasionally required for services developed by the team
Qualifications:
Experience with web infrastructure and distributed systems; Background on services and cloud computing (Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services) a plus
Develop quality scalable, tested and reliable applications using industry best practices
Experience with Java and scripting languages
Working experience with AWS/Azure public cloud services (other are good too)
Have expertise in at least one of the following: API design and development, performance analysis and capacity planning, SQL and NoSQL databases, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) and test-driven development (TDD)
Strong level of curiosity and interest to learn, problem solver
Good communication skills (English)
Basic Requirements
BS/MS in Computer Science (or equivalent degree) with 2 year of professional software development
Familiarity with modern development operations tooling (Trace based application performance monitoring, docker containers, and similar)
A working understanding of at least one server side language (Java preferred)
Experience with development of custom network services (HTTP, WebSockets)
A background in Linux/Unix Administration
Prior experience being on-call for services developed by the team
Demonstrated experience developing and deploying services on Microsoft Azure
ELK Stack, Prometheus, Shell Scripting, Kubernetes
Azure Cloud Services such as Azure Event Hub, Active Directory
