Software Engineer (SE3), Ford Digital (Kotlin backend services or Full-Stack)

Short Description:
A Software Engineer at Ford Digital, loves to code using Test-Driven Development, puts the customer first, finds purpose in their work, is inspired to uncover better ways of developing digital products by doing it and helping others to do it.
The team we’re building right now love working with Kotlin and have experience in developing back-end / webservices / microservices. If you are full-stack (incl. web and/or mobile) that may come in handy in future too. You love to learn and share what you know with colleagues.

How We Work:
We are focused on outcomes, not outputs. We work collaboratively with Product Managers to find solutions to customer problems.
We employ Test-Driven Development (TDD), Trunk-Based Development (no Pull-Requests), Continuous Deployment, Pair/Ensemble Programming and other related practices, many inspired by eXtreme Programming. These practices are essential elements to how we develop software.
We deploy dozens of times per day, our lead time for change is currently sub 10 minutes, and maintaining a negligible change failure rate is important to us. This is the bar we set for ourselves; and work continuously to raise it.
We work largely remotely, typically with one or two days per week on site (details below).

• Kotlin (back-end/services are our current focus)
• Http4K / Result4k
• Google Cloud Platform / Cloud Run / Cloud Build / FireStore CI/CD Google Cloud Build.
• Also: Terraform with SonarQube, FOSSA, 42Crunch and Checkmarx
• Kafka (yeah, we know)
• And potentially new tech that you introduce us to
About You:
You have just read “How We Work” and “About Ford Digital” and "Our Tech Stack" and this sounds like your ideal place to be! You are competent, even proficient, in Kotlin and TDD and have experience (or aspirations) that match our other ways of working.
You are able to develop back-end, event-driven services. We work with Kotlin – Java developers keen to use Kotlin are welcome, as are developers who can complement this with full-stack skills may be considered.
You love to learn as much as you love to share what you know with team-mates. You enjoy getting things done and doing them well, as a team.
We are looking for people who:

• Enjoy deleting code as much, if not more, than writing it.

Qualifications:
You have experience, competencies, talents, and aptitudes for software development in some of the areas we’ve mentioned.
All other academic, professional, experienced-based qualifications are a bonus.
The practical stuff:
• We are based in Here East, Hackney Wick, London, (former site of the Press office for the Olympics).
• Our people work remotely, or in the office, or a mix of both. Many choose to be in the office more than once per week, but that’s not a requirement.
• The office is bright, spacious and a great place to be. The surrounding area has many options to socialise and great places to eat and shop.
