Software Engineer 1 - Frontend
The role
Software Engineer at Chegg is someone that makes an immediate impact on millions of our student customers.
You’ll be joining our Identity and Access Management team which is responsible for being the gateway and the gatekeeper to all Chegg’s products.
Requirements:
• Bachelors in computer science or equivalent training or work experience.
• You are highly skilled with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3 (2+ years)
• You have production experience working on large codebase frontend projects with React, Redux, webpack, babel, ES6 (2+ years)
• You are comfortable with TypeScript, unit test, and an end-to-end test
• Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals: object-oriented design, data structure systems, and application programming.
• You are able to find performance and scalability issues and solve them
• You have experience working across teams and with remote teams
• You take pride in shipping work that focuses on quality, performance, and scalability
Responsibilities:
• Develop features in a legacy (PHP) web application that delivers Chegg’s core functionalities.
• Participate in building our next-gen web application based on React and Next.JS.
• Work with Backend Engineers to define APIs and then build and ship performant features
• Build efficient and reusable front-end components
• Diagnose and repair performance issues, and build strategies with others to ensure high throughput
• Own decisions around refactoring and strengthening the frontend ecosystem
Bonus Points:
• You are familiar GraphQL and/or Apollo
• You are familiar with Next.JS
• You have worked with PHP
• You have worked with SSR
• You have some experience with AWS
