Job Description

Software Engineering Lead
Data Catalog, Analytics and Visualisation

Location: Chennai

About our team

As a Software Engineer Lead - Data Catalog, Analytics and Visualisation at Elsevier, you will be part of our mission to "help Researchers and Healthcare Professionals advance science and improve health outcomes for the benefit of society". Making trusted, high-quality data to our Customers and Colleagues is critical to the success of this mission.

Elsevier has many mature operational Insights and Analytics teams working across the different business domains. In addition, we are now establishing a more coherent Business Data Platform to further consolidate and optimise the provision of the key data services. These enable data producers and consumers across the business to service the growing volume of Insights and Analytics on which our Colleagues and Customers rely. The success of the platform and data and analytics ecosystem it empowers will enable the business to perform and deliver on our objective to "empower Elsevier with trusted data and insights".

You will provide solutions that help bring data, governance and technology together to create customer, commercial and operational insight. You will collaborate with colleagues across the business to understand their needs and requirements to ensure our data and engineering efforts are value driven. In doing so, you will help lead the way in maturing our data and analytics capabilities, driving standardisation in data management, advocating for sharing and re-use of data and ultimately embedding a data driven culture.

Your work will connect you with a broad and diverse community of colleagues across the business. They will have a mix of different levels of data literacy and technical knowledge; from novice to seasoned professional.
About the role

Your role is part of the Post Sales and Data team within our wider Digital Business Solutions technology group. You will partner with the business Product Owner to define and deliver the roadmap whilst maintaining operational excellence. The initial scope of technologies under your remit includes Collibra, Tableau and Knime although these will develop over time as our business needs and maturity evolve.

Your success will ultimately be measured by the value and service (robustness, scalability and operational efficiency) delivered through this tooling, as part of the Business Data Platform, and their contribution to ensuring the best outcomes for our customers and our business. In practice, this will mean supporting strategic leadership and operational management of the platform data services under your remit. It will extend to the management of your engineering Squad, driving adoption and best use of the data platform services, and streamlining our data analytics capabilities and processes.

• A passion for transforming, delivering, and managing value orientated data services
• An understanding of the importance of self-service data enablement and user experience

• Direct experience of managing and developing with data catalog, analytics, or data visualization technologies (e.g. Collibra Data Catalog, Tableau Server, KNIME Server, Snowflake Cloud Data Warehouse, etc.)
• Advanced knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall)
• Experience of applying modern CICD to data engineering and platform ecosystems (inc. tools, technology and languages like Jenkins, Terraform, AWS, Python, SQL, Java)
