The JAVA Specialist is part of Astadia Product Support team and works on complex problems of diverse scope where in-depth analysis of issues is required. Strong knowledge in Java technologies and debugging code of large applications is a must have. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Learn the Astadia Conversion tools to perform mainframe transformations.
• Provide expert level Java knowledge and debugging.
• Provide expert level COBOL.
• Investigate complex issues faced by Factory team and provide solutions.
• Document requirements, use cases, system design and code.
• Participate in multiple concurrent projects to provide fixes on-time.
• Work closely with Factory team to achieve desired results.
• Mentor junior team members to improve their knowledge level
• Guide junior team members on any complex issues/tasks, review their work
• Thrive in an environment of collaboration and change.
Education and Experience
• 6+ years of experience with Core Java development, in complex environment like R&D
• 2+ years of Development experience in COBOL
• A plus would be candidate with 5+ Years of Development experience using cutting edge development tools like Eclipse/VSCode, Profilers in Java.
• Certifications in any cloud technologies.
• BE in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
• Expert level in Java application technologies (JDBC, ANT, etc....).
• Knowledge of GIT and REST
• Expert level experience coding in Java
• Capable of code debugging, performing builds, and rollouts.
• Expert level Bash development.¬
• Basic level experience in mainframe COBOL
• In-depth understanding of Java OO concepts and data structures
• Experienced in unit testing, test-driven development, integration testing, and deployment using cloud technologies.
• Willing to learn Mainframe Technologies (COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2 etc)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Waterfall and Agile Development Methodologies
