The Role

This position is a member in the Commercial Law Unit within the Legal and Legislation Branch which deals with (among other things) funding arrangements, intellectual property, licensing, property including leasing, international offices and major projects.

The Responsibilities Of The Solicitor Will Include

Provide advice on a broad range of legal, legislative and policy issues and proposals.
Draft and review a range of legal documentation, including agreements and instruments, dealing with a range of issues, including assistance with development of precedents.
Assist in the management of the delivery of legal services by external providers where required to ensure high quality advice and value for money.

The Team

The position of Solicitor, Commercial Law forms a part of the Legal and Legislation branch within the Corporate Services group.

The Legal and Legislation Branch provides high quality, strategic legal advice, litigation services, legislative services and legal policy advice to the Secretary, Ministers, departmental executive management and other senior staff to support the achievement of government policy and departmental objectives. The Branch is also responsible for the management of DJSIR's Freedom of Information requests.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

Relevant experience as a Government lawyer or in corporate or private practice.
Experience in drafting a wide range of legal documentation particularly in a commercial context.
Ability to provide clear advice on a range of legal issues preferably in a government context.
