About Thrive Learning Academy: Thrive Learning Academy is a newly established,* quaint, relationship-centered nonpublic school* in Washington, D.C., with a maximum capacity of 40 scholars. We serve students ages 5–21 with learning, emotional, intellectual, and developmental disabilities—including autism.
We operate a year-round academic program with 210 instructional days, half-day Fridays, and intermittent breaks, allowing for ongoing academic growth and continuity of care for our students.
Our founding team brings over 20 years of experience in special education, and we are eager to combine our expertise to create one of the most effective and supportive learning environments in the District of Columbia.
Position Overview: We are seeking Certified Special Education Teachers who are reliable, flexible, motivated, and team-oriented. This role requires close collaboration with administrators, related service providers, and support staff to provide exceptional academic and functional instruction using a blend of ABA-style teaching and natural environment learning.
Specialty Functions
Develop and implement annual Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and create related documents.
Work collaboratively with teachers, related service providers, dedicated aides, and other key stakeholders to promote student growth.
Progress monitors student IEP, academic, and behavioral progress to make informed decisions about instruction and support.
Essential Responsibilities
Design and deliver engaging and accessible instruction to meet the needs of all students.
Support social-emotional wellness, including Behavior Invention Plan (BIP). daily living, and pre-vocational skills.
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and emotionally responsive classroom by implementing strong management of student behaviors and classroom procedures
Participate in IEP-related meetings, family communication, and team collaboration.
Apply data-driven practices and contribute to school-wide growth initiatives.
Maintain confidentiality of student information.
Provide direction and manage dedicated aides as directed.
Carry out behavioral strategies, including crisis intervention in keeping with policies and procedures and regulations governing private special education day schools
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
DC certification in Special Education (or eligible for reciprocity)
2+ years of experience in a special education setting preferred
Knowledge of autism, ABA-style instruction, and functional academics
Strong collaboration, classroom management, and student-centered practices
Job Type: Full-time
