Position Description

Southshire Community School is seeking a part-time, licensed Special Educator to provide IEP services and case management. In this role, the special educator will work closely with a team of professional educators to ensure instruction is personalized, supportive, and well-aligned with each student’s needs and strengths.

We are looking for someone who enjoys collaboration, values creativity and flexibility, and is excited to work within an emergent, inquiry-based curriculum. Position: Special Educator

Availability: Part-time - flexible hours

Essential Functions

Responsible for all elements of the IEP process, including the evaluation, planning, and case management of eligible students.

Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP. Support a team of related service providers to ensure effective implementation of student programs.

Provides consultation to three Head Teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans, and other similar instructional interventions.

Provides research-based, specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP. Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques. Employs various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.

Collaborate with families, community partners, and outside agencies to support students' access to resources and services.

Knowledge and experience with behavioral strategies, accommodations, and interventions for students with emotional/behavioral challenges.

Participate in professional development to stay informed on best practices in special education and transition planning,

Ideal Qualifications:

Valid Vermont Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement; a provisional or emergency license may be considered, but preference is given to candidates who are licensed (or eligible for licensure) in Special Education in Vermont.

Experience in developing and/or providing IEP case management.

Working knowledge of the profiles of neurodivergent students.

Understanding and working knowledge of Vermont’s Special Education laws.

Pay: $35.00 - $60.00 per hour
