Selection Criteria
SC1 Development and delivery of a comprehensive speech pathology service and a capacity to lead and deliver small group speech therapy and communication programs to students who have language delays and concerns.
SC2 A sound knowledge of evidence-based speech pathology techniques and the ability to develop, provide and evaluate speech pathology services and provide speech advice on appropriate intervention strategies.
SC3 Demonstrated ability to administer appropriate language assessments and provide advice to staff and families on program delivery and follow up.
SC4 Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a range of professionals, teachers and parents on service delivery and student-based issues.
SC5 Experience in the design and delivery of professional learning activities in the areas of language and communication for teachers and other educational professionals.
SC6 A sound knowledge and experience in the use of a range of Alternative and Augmentative Communication systems (both low- and high-technology systems) and the implementation of AAC best practice.
Role
This role is advertised as fulltime 1.0 however the college is open to a lesser time fraction for the right applicant. Remuneration is in line with the current VGSA2022 Education Support Salary, ES1-4. Please contact the college HR Manager for further information.
Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.
Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities
The Speech Pathologist will:
work under the direction of the Inclusion AP
independently provide high quality standard speech pathology services (assessment, treatment and consultation)
focus on assisting the students to develop their speech, language, communication and safe swallowing skills
provide professional assessment, interventions and support services to students within the parameters of school policy and guidelines
administer and write reports for relevant assessments (e.g. CELF-5) as directed by the Inclusion AP
provide clinical management and intervention to people with a speech, language, communication and safe swallowing
apply evidence-based interventions following person-centred assessment
provide professional reports requiring in-depth factual analysis, including assessments and recommendations for consideration by other stakeholders
evaluate and modify interventions and report on outcomes of interventions
provide documentation of speech pathology services provided, including progress notes
initiate programs to improve the speech of student cohorts and target groups within the College
plan, lead and evaluate structured small group programs (e.g. language for learning, social communication, and oral-to-written expression) to support identified student cohorts.
monitor student progress within group programs and adjust interventions based on data and observed outcomes.
provide health and communication support plans and assessments reports for Disability Inclusion Profiles
provide expert advice to influence the strategic approach to student support and learning
creating speech pathology reports and recommendations to support Student Support Group (SSG) support the development of Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) when required for students with a disability.
refer students to suitable external services for additional support
provide advice and support to staff in implementing interventions and strategies to support students
collaborate with the Engagement and Inclusion teams to evaluate and enhance student learning & engagement
work collaboratively with teachers, other professionals, parents, and students
provide relevant professional learning to school staff and leadership around supporting students with a speech or communication difficulty or disability
assist in establishing Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and support strategies
communicate professionally with College staff, parents and external agencies
attend the required meetings
participate in staff meetings, professional learning committee meetings and other team meetings, where appropriate.
adhere to privacy legislation, policies and procedures of the Keysborough Secondary College.
provide advice on diagnoses provided by external professionals and monitor students¿ progress
coordinate or assist in the implementation of specific professional in-service training programs for teachers, parents, schools and other professionals, both within and outside the Department
develop and/or maintain appropriate data collection, interpretation procedures and confidential record keeping and reporting systems for individual students referred for speech pathology services in line with the Department of Education (DoE) and Keysborough Secondary College policies and procedures
meet with the Inclusion AP on a regular basis to share information and organise workflow
liaise with professionals in other schools, external agencies and community organisations to ensure coordinated provision of services to students, parents and families (for example, health, education, and welfare)
remain up to date with current research and literature relevant to the role and maintain learning that demonstrates a strong commitment to ongoing professional development Additional Duties
undertake additional duties as directed by the College Principal class.

Location Profile
Keysborough Secondary College is a multi-campus school with one campus in Keysborough (Acacia Campus) and one in Springvale South (Banksia Campus). Both campuses offer programs for students in years 7-12 with an organisational structure arranged around Junior and Senior sub-schools.
Enrolments in the College stand at around 2300 and are growing. The College provides a broad range of VCE, VCE-VM and VET subjects for our students across the two campuses. The College also has a significant International Students Program with its own ELC.

The final stage has been completed for the new Administration Centre on the Banksia Campus and the refurbishment of the Music area at the Acacia Campus.
