About this opportunity:
The Truck Helper assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards; assists in performing work in the thrift/family store and warehouse. When needed: Sorting responsibilities; receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. Cleans and maintains the stores and storage facilities.
Key responsibilities:
• Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
• Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
• Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
• Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick- ups.
• Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
• Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
What we are looking for in you:
• No formal education required, AND
• Six (6) months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, OR
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, but not limited to an office environment due to travel requirements.

CHA Fire Protection Services offers highly specialized fire protection engineering services and cutting-edge solutions to the most challenging fire protection projects. Our knowledgeable staff manages complex industrial, commercial and design/build fire protection projects, including sprinkler systems, fire pumps, ground storage tanks, underground piping, and special hazards.
The Sprinkler Helper is responsible for the complete installation of fire sprinkler systems in commercial and industrial buildings according to standards.

Additionally, the Sprinkler Helper interprets work specifications and fire codes, tests systems for leaks, and maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area.

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• OSHA 30 Training required or must obtain within 30 days of employment
• No industry experience is required
• Ability to read blueprints and redline fab drawings (preferred)
• Ability to perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as working within ducts, crawl spaces, climbing a ladder, outside in the heat or cold, on lift equipment, or dirty environments
• Ability to work at heights in a man lift and lift 50+ pounds above head
• Must have excellent communication skills and positive customer service attitude
• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
• Ability to travel throughout the southeast
