Job Description
• Offer DBA PostgreSQL / MYSQL support for application development team.
• Ensure integrity, availability, security and performance of POSTGRESQL / MYSQL database systems by providing technical support and maintenance.
• Monitor database uptime, performance and recommend improvements for operational efficiency.
• Assist in capacity planning, space management and data maintenance activities for database system.
• Perform database enhancement and modification as per the requirements.
• Perform database recovery and backup tasks on daily and weekly basis.
• Develop and maintain patches for database environments.
• Identify and recommend database techniques to support business needs.
• Lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, reducing any need downtime.
• Participate in the creation of development, staging, and production database instances, and the migration from one environment to another.
• Responsible for pro-active remediation of database operational problems.
• Manages logins and user accounts, including assigning database object permissions and privileges.
• Participate in a 24×7 support rotation.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field, along with 5-6 years of relevant experience in database administration, programming, or a combination of education and hands-on training.
• At least 3 years of practical experience as a PostgreSQL or MySQL database administrator.
• In-depth knowledge of database installation, upgrades, and migration processes.
• Experience in applying patches and fixes to PostgreSQL or MySQL databases.
• Proficiency in database architecture, including logical and physical design, automation, documentation, shell scripting, PL/SQL programming, query tuning, system optimization, backup and recovery, standby, and replication.
• Strong skills in Linux, shell scripting (e.g., Bash, Perl), and command-line database server administration.
• Excellent analytical, communication (verbal and written), and capacity planning skills for storage, compute, and memory resources.
• Ability to work non-standard hours, including nights and weekends, with on-call responsibilities as needed.
• Additional advantageous skills include knowledge of MS SQL Server, automation with Perl or Python, ITIL principles, networking understanding, and experience in financial services or regulated industries, as well as Oracle or MySQL database administration experience.
