Senior Open Source Linux Administrator
(Rocky/Ubuntu/RHEL)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Open Source Linux Administrator with deep expertise in managing and securing Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of system hardening, performance tuning, patch management, and open-source tooling. Experience with Ansible for automation, as well as familiarity with DevOps workflows and RHEL to Rocky migration, is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
Deploy, configure, and manage Linux systems (Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, RHEL) in physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
Perform system upgrades, patch management, performance tuning, and system hardening.
Create and manage Ansible playbooks for automated configuration and provisioning.
Manage identity, authentication, and authorization (SSSD, LDAP, Kerberos).
Implement and monitor system logging, auditing, and security controls (SELinux, firewalld, auditd).
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, OS, and application-related issues.
Work with cross-functional teams to support CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads.
Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring systems.
Document operational procedures, configurations, and environment topology.
Provide mentorship to junior administrators and participate in on-call support rotations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in Linux systems administration, including production environments.
Strong experience with Rocky Linux, Ubuntu LTS versions, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Proficiency with Bash scripting and automation tools like Ansible or Puppet.
Experience in system security, including vulnerability remediation and system hardening.
Knowledge of system performance monitoring tools such as top, iostat, vmstat, and sysstat.
Familiarity with LVM, XFS/EXT4, and logical volume management.
Migration from RHEL to Rocky, Ubuntu.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, or LFCS.
Experience with container runtimes (Docker, Podman) and Kubernetes administration.
Working knowledge of Git, Jenkins, or other DevOps tooling.
Experience with Apache, Nginx, and database services (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Understanding of systemd and advanced Linux boot and service management.
Soft Skills:
Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-pressure environment.
Strong documentation and organizational skills.
