About This Role:
A key part of Forrester's growing product technology group, the Principal Software Engineer I provides a multitier, release-level perspective to required technologies and techniques to accomplish the product's technical and business goals. This role designs an end-to-end solution across multiple technology components (e.g., cloud, API, database, front end) and explains it to technical and nontechnical team members. You will collaborate with the engineering manager and act as a technical mentor in informing the product organization of technical risks or process issues to ensure the team's success.
We are looking for an experienced individual who can help us deliver innovative digital product experiences by ensuring customer, product, and market needs are properly implemented and reflected in a customer-ready digital product through fact-based intelligence.
Job Description:
• Provide expert-level technical skills with broad and deep capabilities within the system that make up the application. Define team processes.
• Own application code style definition, implementation design standards, and quality processes.
• Stay updated on multiple layers within product development.
• Solve technical and business problems.
• Evolve functional and nonfunctional architectural designs.
• Serve as application lead for all system maintenance issues.
• Support advancement of technical excellence of product team without taking over technical team.
• Meet or exceed business expectations.
• Communicate effectively within the team and with all stakeholders by providing high-quality visibility into planned and actual deliverables.
• Lead code review sessions with a focus on teaching Forrester and industry best practices.
• Use client usage data and knowledge of Forrester business strategy to influence details of features in project work.
• Build positive relationships with people throughout the department.
• Mentor and help team members to improve team velocity.
Job Requirements:
• Ten-plus years' experience as a software engineer or developer.
• A distinguished developer with knowledge of accessibility practices and excellent front-end (JavaScript, Vue [Nuxt is a plus] CSS/Sass, BEM) as well as back-end skills (JAVA, SpringBoot, C#, Python, Relational DB).
• Good knowledge of AWS, Microservices, Elastic Search, CMS, and Git.
• The ability to lead the coding, architecture, and design and help with requirements, analysis, and testing as needed.
• Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and organizational skills.
• A product mindset focused on the outcomes of the work we do.
