Staff Accountant

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role involves overseeing the accounting functions, with a special focus on managing the Accounts Payable (AP) process.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable Management:

• Oversee the entire AP process, including invoice verification, coding, and payment processing.

• Ensure timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices and expense reports.

• Monitor and manage AP aging reports and resolve discrepancies promptly.

• Enhance efficiency and internal controls.

General Accounting Duties:

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts

• Conduct month-end and year-end close processes; including bank & credit card reconciliations

• Responsible for the intercompany accounting process

• Weekly ACH and wire postings for multiple entities

• Post journal entries in accounting system & review other journal entries as assigned

• Fixed asset accounting

• Administration of banking relationships

• Monthly and quarterly state tax preparation and filing

• Some knowledge of payroll processing, reporting, & taxes

• Vendor management

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

• Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

• Generate and analyze financial reports to provide insights and recommendations to senior management.

Team Leadership:

• Assist in maintaining the accounting systems

• Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth financial operations and resolve any AP-related issues.

• Mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and training as needed.

• Back up for other employees and special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. or 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations. Proven knowledge of debits, credits and journal entry process.

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).

• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with accounting systems

• Familiarity with AP automation tools and processes.

• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment

• Must be organized, a self-starter, and detail oriented

• Ability to work independently and with a team

• Strong problem solving skills

Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation range is a good faith estimate of the possible compensation at the time of the posting, and is subject to change. The hourly rate for the position is between $25/hr. to $30/hr. based on various factors, which may include a candidate’s education, training, and experience.
