Primary objective
The position will lead and manage the Office of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO), provide strategic advice and
support to the DCEO and executive leadership team, and drive initiatives, strategies and projects that aim to deliver
organisational improvements.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the delivery of high quality strategic support and advice to the Deputy CEO, agency executives in the

development of effective work practices, processes, procedures and structures that enable timely, quality services and
advice to internal and external stakeholders.

2. Manage a diverse and changing portfolio of projects and identify and bring forward advice and recommendations for the
resolution of emerging issues that impact on the strategic, corporate and agency’s operations.

3. Lead the development of organisational improvement initiatives that foster a work environment which inspires and values
employee contributions, acknowledges effort and celebrates success, and work with relevant agencies on whole-of-
sector organisational improvement initiatives including career development pathways and workforce development
planning.

4. Provide Secretariat support to the Department’s Executive Leadership Team, the Workforce Planning and Governance
Committee and any DCEO led committee meetings and projects.

5. Build and maintain high level collaborative networks and relationships with senior departmental, other government
agency staff, and external stakeholders, drawing on these relationships to facilitate outcomes.

6. Research, analyse data, prepare and edit correspondence, presentations, reports and submissions and maintain Office of
the DCEO oversight of Ministerial and Cabinet correspondence prepared by the agency, and coordinate the Office of the
DCEO’s delivery of the agency’s strategic plans, quarterly reporting, annual reports, and associated documents.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated team leadership and management skills, ability to effectively negotiate issues of performance and service

delivery and the ability to work in partnerships to achieve and drive outcomes that meet strategic and corporate
objectives.

2. Superior interpersonal skills, including communicating with influence, the ability to negotiate successful strategic
outcomes across a range of audiences and diverse cultures, and clearly articulate complex concepts and critical issues.

3. Build and maintain effective and strategic networks and relationships with senior departmental, other government agency
staff and external stakeholders, drawing on these relationships to facilitate outcomes and manage projects effectively.

4. Demonstrated high level of judgement including the ability to understand the broader operating environment and deal
appropriately with matters of a highly sensitive or confidential nature.

5. Ability to identify, facilitate and coordinate areas of development to strengthen the agency’s capacity, drive the
implementation of organisational improvement initiatives, and lead the implementation of organisational improvement
initiatives on behalf of the agency.

6. High level organisational skills, including the ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage competing
and changing priorities.

Desirable
1. Knowledge and experience of corporate support functions and government processes within a policing environment.
