Description
As an Operating Room Nurse (OR Nurse), you will be an essential member of the surgical team, providing expert nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Your role will encompass preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal surgical outcomes. This position requires clinical expertise, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals in the operating room (OR) environment.
Responsibilities:
Preoperative Preparation:
Prepare the operating room and sterile equipment for surgical procedures.
Verify patient identity, surgical site, and consent forms.
Assist with patient positioning and prepping according to surgical protocols.
Perform preoperative assessments and ensure patient readiness for surgery.
Intraoperative Support:
Assist the surgical team during procedures by providing instruments, supplies, and sterile equipment as needed.
Maintain a sterile field and adhere to aseptic technique throughout the surgery.
Anticipate surgeon's needs and assist with procedural tasks as directed.
Monitor patient vital signs and anesthesia administration during surgery.
Document intraoperative events, medications, and fluid intake/output accurately.
Postoperative Care:
Transfer patients to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or recovery area after surgery.
Monitor postoperative patients for signs of complications, such as bleeding, infection, or respiratory distress.
Assess patient pain levels and administer medications as prescribed.
Provide wound care, dressing changes, and other postoperative interventions.
Educate patients and families on postoperative care instructions and discharge planning.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technicians, and other members of the surgical team to ensure optimal patient care.
Communicate effectively with team members regarding patient status, equipment needs, and procedural changes.
Serve as a patient advocate, addressing concerns and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the perioperative experience.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Adhere to established surgical policies, protocols, and regulatory standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
Maintain proficiency in operating room technologies, equipment, and best practices.
Participate in ongoing education and professional development activities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
