Which team is this in

This Staff Engineer role sits in the Customer Data - Masterers squad within the Subscriptions & Branding - Modernisation tribe at REA Group. The Modernisation tribe is responsible for uplifting our listings and customer data platforms to provide robust platforms and reliable data to support growth.

Day to day of the job

As a Staff Engineer, you are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining innovative solutions within your team. Your deep technical expertise is applied across systems that your team owns, using a variety of programming languages, databases, and cloud technologies. Emphasis is placed on agile software development practices such as test-driven development, continuous delivery, and pair programming. You will lead or significantly contribute to medium to large-scale initiatives, providing technical guidance within your team aligned with your specialisations. Day to day you’ll be doing:

Develop, test, and document high-quality code adhering to REA's engineering standards.
Lead strategic initiatives, applying deep expertise in core technical areas.
Solve complex technical problems while mentoring team members and growing their skills.
Collaborate with Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers to define technical direction.
Design high-quality, user-centric solutions in collaboration with stakeholders.
Maintain and enhance existing products, including bug fixes and feature development.
Provide production support, including participation in the on-call (e.g., Day Pager) rotation.
Mentor team members, conduct code (PR) and technical design reviews

Who we’re looking for

You have extensive experience working in software development, with a proven track record in building reliable and scalable software applications. Developed skills include modern software development techniques such as functional programming, test-driven development, and continuous delivery. You possess hands-on experience in software design patterns and have an adept understanding of web and application architectures. You have supported systems deployed to the cloud and have advanced skills in designing solutions for scale and performance. Your expertise includes API development, distributed event-driven systems architectures, and cloud offerings. You thrive in fast-paced, agile environments and exhibit strong communication skills, demonstrating a solutions-focused mindset.
