Visa's Value-Added Services (VAS) team is building a new generation of products to facilitate commerce in everyone's digital and mobile lives. At VAS PD, we are focused on creating smarter payment solutions that provide fast, easier ways to pay with phone, web and other digital devices wherever you are – remote or proximity payment.
Developer Tools team in Visa’s Value-Added Services group is responsible for providing operational excellence across various technology teams by developing tools and capabilities needed for seamless execution. The team is focused on early integration capabilities, Automation and Mobile capabilities needed to facilitate the software development process, push new features from development to production in a predictable, low risk and agile manner. The role is a self-organized Software Engineer with solid J2EE, web service & SQL development experience. In this position, you are first and foremost a passionate and talented developer that can work in a dynamic environment as a member of Agile Scrum teams. Your strong technical leadership, problem solving abilities, coding, testing, and debugging skills is just a start. An ideal candidate will also have a strong development background, bring automation and tools development experience. You must also be committed to continuous improvement of the agile process, demonstrating your ability to share knowledge, mentor and motivate others. You must be willing to go beyond the routine and prepared to do a little bit of everything.
Responsibilities
• Work independently, driving projects end to end and provide guidance to junior engineers.
• Write software code that complies with design specifications and meets security and Java/J2EE best practices that will meet development and support requirements.
• Collaborate with team members in design reviews, development, and code reviews.
• Responsible for the architecture, design, development, and implementation.
• Work on development of new products iteratively by building quick POCs and converting ideas into real products.
• Design and develop mission-critical systems, delivering high-availability and performance.
• Interact with both business and technical stakeholders to deliver high quality products and services that meet business requirements and expectations while applying the latest available tools and technology.
• Develop code and mentor junior developers to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and with good code quality.
• Have a passion for delivering zero defect code and be responsible for ensuring the team's deliverables meet or exceed the prescribed defect SLA.
• Help developer efficiencies by utilizing Continuous Integration/Development tools, test automation frameworks and other related items.
• Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms. Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a precise and timely manner.
• Identify opportunities for future enhancements and refinements to products, standards, best practices, and development methodologies.
• Collaborate with global and virtual teams on software development.
• Identify opportunities for future enhancements and refinements to standards, best practices, and development methodologies.
• Implement and enforce best practices for code promotion across the various environments.
• Validate successful introduction of newly deployed products and feature sets to the market.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
• Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in software design and development building Java Enterprise Applications
• Minimum of 2 years of Full Stack Software Development experience in building large-scale mission critical application.
• Strong foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design optimized for building highly distributed and parallelized systems.
• Strong hands-on experience in Core Java, J2EE technologies, Microservices, Spring, Hibernate, REST APIs.
• Experience of web development using one of the technologies like Angular or React etc.
• Strong experience with one or more of the following database technologies: MS / Oracle SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, NoSQL and or Clover
• Strong scripting skills in Python, UNIX shell scripting and Perl.
• Solid background in systems engineering and operations would be an advantage.
• Hands on experience in tools such as Jenkins, Git/Stash, Maven and / or Gradle
• Possesses a solid understanding of modern web application architecture, Apache, Tomcat, TCP/IP, HTTP and n-tier architecture.
• Good to have experience with Continuous Integration and Deployment
• Good to have hands on experience with Linux systems.
• Experience in Agile development is a big plus.
• Excellent presentation, collaboration and communication skills required.
• Willingness to learn and build new tools from scratch.
• Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills.
