Job Description

Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora,你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

Leading the design and implementation of a new frontend telemetry SDK — laying the foundation for how Canva captures behavioural, performance, and reliability signals at scale.
Shaping the technical direction of frontend telemetry at Canva — making foundational decisions that influence how we measure, understand, and improve product quality across the company.
Collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders — from product and platform engineers to data scientists and senior leaders — to understand measurement pain points, gather feedback, and ensure telemetry tooling is intuitive, valuable, and drives better decision-making.
Building intuitive frontend experiences that surface telemetry insights both broadly across teams and strategically for leadership — empowering action at every level.
Driving a company-wide rollout of the new SDK — supporting teams to migrate from bespoke systems and consolidating telemetry approaches into a unified, scalable standard.
Partnering with the Reliability Platform team to uplift frontend monitoring, error reporting, and alerting capabilities across Canva.
Fostering a network of measurement-focused subject matter experts across specialties and teams — championing best practices for embedding quality pillars like performance and reliability into product development workflows.
Acting as a technical leader within the group — mentoring engineers, influencing cross-group architecture, and helping Canva set the bar for frontend measurement excellence.
You're probably a match if

You’re a deeply technical frontend engineer who’s passionate about enabling product teams to learn faster, build better, and deliver quality at scale. You’re someone who thrives on solving platform-wide problems and shaping how insights drive better decisions across Canva.

You’ll bring:

Deep expertise in browser-based frontend telemetry, including real user monitoring and error reporting systems.
Experience designing and evolving systems that surface actionable insights for both engineers and senior leadership.
A track record of mentoring and providing technical guidance across teams with a collaborative, enabling approach.
The ability to drive strategic technical direction, balancing big-picture vision with strong implementation detail.
Confidence in leading technical presentations and discussions, engaging a wide range of stakeholders to drive alignment and adoption.
You’re known as a proactive collaborator and trusted mentor, skilled at influencing cross-functionally and guiding others with clarity. Above all, you’re driven by impact — helping teams ship with confidence and shaping how Canva measures and improves product quality through data and learning.

About the Group

We’re the Product Insights Enablement group — or PIE for short — and we’re on a mission to unlock smarter, faster product development at Canva. PIE owns "Pilot," our internal platform that brings together our in-house experimentation tooling, feature flags, metrics, and, most recently, a feature catalogue: a canonical view of every feature in Canva, with out-of-the-box metrics for product teams based on telemetry instrumented in our application.

We’ve built a strong foundation of data and measurement over the years, but we’re at a point now where we’re not just here to deliver more data — we're here to unleash the next era of Canva’s product evolution. We’re building novel capabilities that combine qualitative and quantitative insights, lean into the power of AI, and empower teams to make more confident, impactful product decisions. We’re a fast-growing group of FE/BE engineers, PMs, designers and data scientists/analytics engineers. And we’re excited to open up this role to help accelerate us towards this vision, and to co-create it.

About the Role

As a Staff Frontend Engineer within the Product Insights Enablement group, you’ll be at the forefront of Canva’s push to deeply understand how users experience our product — not just through what they do, but how well it works for them. You’ll focus on rolling out and evolving our frontend telemetry capabilities, enabling rich, reliable, and scalable measurement of user behaviour, product performance, and reliability.

This data is vital for making informed product decisions and ensuring an exceptional end-to-end user experience. You’ll partner with teams across Canva to build tools and surfaces that make telemetry data easily accessible and actionable. Your impact will shape how Canva learns from every user interaction and responds with precision and confidence at scale.
