The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Health are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist in Pain Medicine in the Persistent Pain Unit.

The position involves management and a comprehensive understanding of chronic/persistent pain and be adept at working within an interdisciplinary team environment.

The position will be attractive to a highly skilled and motivated medical professional who views challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicant will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

The successful candidate will provide specialist diagnosis, treatment and care for public patients. They will provide a consultative service in Persistent Pain to other disciplines within the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Persistent Pain Service (PPS) is a Level 1 training unit of the Faculty of Pain Medicine. It has accredited training positions for specialist aiming to enter the pain medicine fellowship program. The PPS also boasts Faculty-approved Supervisors of training who oversee the training program and provide essential supervision to the trainees. Salary

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000 with further salary increments available.

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $2+1,472 - $301,34+ is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,38+ pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 pro rata per annum.
Relocation allowance.
On call allowance % of Base Salary.
All other allowances as per current Award.
And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
Other Benefits:

You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $+,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs.


Details of Appointment

Permanent part-time day work, working up to 45.6 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.

Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

Conviction checks in the following areas:
Crimes of violence
Sex related offences
Serious drug offences
Crimes involving dishonesty
Identification check
Disciplinary action in previous employment check
