The Opportunity

The SAE provides oversight and direction on Design and Safety Case tasks being managed in the Project Portfolio, ensuring that the right work is delivered in the right way at the right time.

This strategic role promotes and drives cross functional collaboration to deliver a diverse range of technical solutions to Torness Power Station’s biggest Operational and Defueling risks.

Pay, benefits and culture

We’re offering a salary of £44,112 to £+2,778, however you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, permanent position based on-site at Torness Power Station.

What you will be doing:

In this role you will influence the technical direction of projects in a collaborative manner, working with all team members and stakeholders. You will:
• Oversee the problem definition phase to ensure that project teams are set to work to address the correct issues.
• Provide direction and advice to project teams to ensure they have the right technical resource to deliver the work.
• Support Project teams to identify and secure support from Nuclear Services through the Business Planning or emergent work processes.
• Own and oversee the application of the design control process; identifying and mitigating technical risks throughout the full lifecycle of the project.
• Advise senior stakeholders on the status of technical risk affecting individual projects through your quorate membership of Project Boards, the Project Review Committee and the Project Accountability Meeting.
• Demonstrate strong commercial awareness to deliver value for money solutions for the customer.
• Build effective relationships with project stakeholders and project team members and you will influence and oversee key project decision making activities.
• Set the technical delivery strategy for the scheme including how it interfaces with other company processes.
• Take on the role of Principal Designer as defined in the CDM 2015 regulations. Training shall be provided to the successful candidate.

Knowledge, skills & qualifications

You will be an outcome focused problem solver with an ability to utilise information and take accountability for driving solutions. An understanding of how quality is assured and controlled, including project configuration management and document control is essential.

As a real “people person”, your clear communication skills will deliver messages in different ways to cater to your audiences’ specific needs. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, with a good approach to conflict resolution; applying situational awareness that adapts your leadership style to suit. You will value collaboration and enjoy developing others through coaching and extending development opportunities. Your goal is to lead teams to reach group consensus on how to move a project forward.

This will require confidence, and a positive approach to complex situations; to achieve the best outcome for the project and EDF. Your emotional intelligence and experience will enable you to prioritise a positive nuclear safety culture, through efficient and effective delivery.

As a minimum, you will be educated to HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline. Holding a relevant Degree is desirable and Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent, would be an advantage. Practical experience of working within an active engineering/construction project team would be preferable. Practical experience of Safety Case Management activities is also valued. You should be able to demonstrate experience and understanding of Health and Safety legislation including Construction (Design & Management) regulations and the actions required to achieve compliance.
