About The Role

We are seeking a Strategic Grants Officer to join our Grants Office team. This role is pivotal in strengthening research competitiveness by supporting researchers to identify funding opportunities and develop high-quality grant applications. Working closely with researchers, funding bodies, and University of Melbourne research offices, you will provide expert pre‑award grant development support, funding intelligence, and proposal coordination across national and international funding schemes.

What You'll Do

Identify, analyse and communicate funding opportunities from government, industry and philanthropic sources
Provide strategic advice to researchers on funding options, eligibility and grant development approaches
Coordinate grant development timelines and submissions
Review applications for quality, compliance and alignment with funding criteria
Develop funding alerts, guidance materials, templates and toolkits
Deliver workshops, information sessions and internal grant support programs
Maintain accurate funding and application records and track success rates
Liaise with internal teams to ensure policy, governance and financial compliance
Support reporting requirements for NHMRC and other funding bodies
Contribute to initiatives that enhance institutional grant success
About You

You are a highly organised and collaborative professional with strong communication and editorial skills, and a genuine interest in supporting research excellence. Flexibility may be required during peak grant periods, including occasional work outside standard hours.

You will bring:

Essential

Tertiary qualifications in a health science discipline and/or at least 4 years relevant experience (or equivalent combination)
Broad scientific understanding and familiarity with biomedical terminology
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong customer service mindset and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
High attention to detail and demonstrated confidentiality and professionalism
Desirable

Experience with online grant management systems (e.g. Sapphire, RGMS, RMS, Grants.gov)
Experience with financial policy interpretation, budgeting or data analysis
