This position currently falls within our hybrid model, allowing the employee to typically work a minimum of 50% of your time at your regular work location and the other 50% of time at home.

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This student position will be responsible for supporting activities related to the infrastructure asset management planning and strategies of the Niagara Region and managed by the Asset Management Office, reporting to the Managers. If you are someone who believes in the role of municipal government in delivering critical services to communities, has a basic understanding of Asset Management, and has a blend of engineering, planning, data science, technical knowledge, and business acumen, then this position may be of interest to you. Additionally, if you enjoy analytical work and coordinating/facilitating activities with a broad range of stakeholders, you might be a great fit for this role.

EDUCATION

Completion of high school diploma or equivalency (i.e. GED) is required

Currently enrolled in a Civil/or equivalent Engineering program, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Project Management, Environmental Sciences, Computer sciences or Geomatics program.

SKILLS

Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Experience in performing statistical analytics with strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work independently and within a team.

General knowledge of finance and project management concepts terminology is considered an asset.

A general understanding of planning, design, construction, contract administration and operations of municipal infrastructure is considered an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist Asset Management Office with Asset Management planning and strategic functions for the development of state of good repair (SOGR) planning, corporate asset management resource allocation (CAMRA) for municipal Water, Wastewater, Roads, Storm, Transit, Facilities, and Waste Management asset services.

Apply asset management principles including levels of service and risk across the Region’s assets.

Perform various data analysis and infrastructure renewal research to support the programming for Development / Growth and State of Good Repair (SOGR) capital projects.

Engage and liaise with Capital Project Managers to obtain project status updates, and present progress reports and trends, including but not limited to gap analysis and process improvement initiatives.

Manage and analyze large data sets and apply statistical and/or spatial analysis on the Region’s asset inventory and capital budget project information, such as financial trends and infrastructure performance history/ this will be done utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), GIS, PeopleSoft, MS. Outlook, PowerBI to assist with analysis and summarize results.

Be a part of an exciting and evolving asset management program and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to manage information and report the Region’s metrics effectively and efficiently.

Ability to manage changing priorities, multi-task, and communicate through various media is important in this position, as is attention to detail.

Perform other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Travel may be required; the incumbent must supply their own transportation.
