Are you passionate about supporting students and providing assistance while they navigate various support resources? If so, join our team as a Student Benefits Navigator. The Student Benefits Navigator will help students seek, apply for, and receive assistance from benefits programs, emergency resources, and community resources. This position will work to enhance collaborations with community partners to increase resources and develop and implement a Hunger-Free and Basic Needs Campus Strategic Plan.
The Student Benefits Navigator is represented by the Renton Professional Technical Association (Prof-Tech) union. This is a full-time, classified, and overtime eligible position reporting to the Executive Director of Workforce Education & Grants.The pay range for this role is $65,673 - $84,489 annually. Renton Technical College, located southeast of Seattle, has provided quality education in a variety of occupations for over 75 years. Our professional-technical certificate and degree programs offer entry and mid-level training in the areas of allied health, trades, and industry, culinary, business, technology, and automotive. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
Advance the commitment to equity through continuous development, implementation, and assessment of culturally responsive policies and procedures to achieve equitable outcomes for historically marginalized students.
Work closely with existing college and community partners to prevent duplication of services and to streamline support for students through strategic braiding of available resources.
Support efforts to integrate student support programs at the college and to enhance leveraging of college resources.
Actively participate as a member of the statewide Student Benefit Navigators cohort, including attending trainings and meetings
Develop and implement a Hunger-Free and Basic Needs Campus Strategic Plan.
Contribute to the development of the statewide Student Benefits Navigator model, including program processes and data tracking systems.
Track and monitor all students receiving support through this grant and assist with quarterly and annual reporting.
Report outcomes findings annually.
Support student access to Basic Food assistance and the Basic Food, Employment & Training (BFET) program.
Provide guidance and support of students through application and eligibility process for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
Support students access to the RTC food pantry.
Contribute to the Virtual Learning Community for the Statewide Collegiate Recovery Initiative
Participate in ongoing program evaluation and revision efforts to ensure appropriate and effective support for students experiencing homelessness and students in recovery.
Provide data and assist with the completion of the Biennial Drug-Free Schools and Campus report.
Work with other College programs and the SBCTC to secure resources to increase and enhance funding.
Seek new community partnerships to increase resources for students.
Support efforts to integrate student support programs at the college and enhance leveraging of college resources.
Manage budget and resources for the on-site Benefits Hub.
Coordinate and integrate Benefits Hub services into campus activities.
Coordinate a quarterly on-campus basic needs steering committee that brings together leadership, staff, and students.
Support efforts to integrate student support programs at the college and enhance leveraging of college resources.
Provide comprehensive, culturally responsive, strengths-based financial coaching and financial education to students in one-on-one and small group settings (training will be provided)
Track and monitor all students receiving financial coaching services and assist with quarterly and annual reporting.
Participate in financial coaching training, professional development, and focus-groups with our grant partners.
Build students’ capacities to manage their finances independently and sustainably.
Perform other related projects and assignments as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as ****** orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socioeconomic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field is preferred.
2 years of case management experience (or similar) required.
Previous experience working with people experiencing food insecurity or homelessness preferred.
Ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database programs.
Experience facilitating meetings is preferred.
Excellent customer service, communication, and teamwork skills.
Demonstrate flexibility and ability to accommodate multiple stakeholders with various interests and needs.
Demonstrate problem-solving and analytical abilities. Demonstrated experience in interpreting, reviewing, and applying program specific policies, procedures, and regulations.
Strong planning and project management ability.
Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
Attention to detail and previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion, and courtesy.
Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation. Ability to travel for regional meetings as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday – Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
