Who We Are
Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.
Student Engagement and Retention provides and facilitates transformational and engaging opportunities that contribute to students’ overall development and success. This includes our new student transition programming, which welcomes, informs, and connects incoming students to the SFU community. Our unit supports the academic mission of the university by assisting students in their transition into the institution and by providing targeted support for specific populations, such as students experiencing academic difficulties and NCAA athletes. We also administer central student retention programs, such as the Back on Track program.
About the Role
The Student Development Educator conceptualizes, designs, develops, implements, delivers, and evaluates student development, engagement, and leadership programs. Working as a member of the Student Engagement and Retention curriculum committee, and working closely with the Director, Student Engagement and Retention, the incumbent liaises with faculties, other Student Services units, and other university stakeholders, to ensure programs are delivered and that these programs meet institutional student development and engagement learning objectives. The Student Development Educator liaises with other post-secondary institutions that offer similar programs in order to exchange information and to maintain an awareness of developments in the field. The incumbent markets programming and services to students, faculty, and staff, and establishes and maintains relationships with student and special interest groups, university departments, and community organizations.
