Qualifications
MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Undergraduate degree preferably related to communications, marketing, education, in a related discipline.
Knowledge of university regulations, programs and procedures as they relate to the function/program.
A recent University of Manitoba graduate preferred.
EXPIERENCE:

One year of directly-related administrative experience is required.
Experience in public relations, marketing preferred.
Experience working with students in the post-secondary or high-school system preferred.
Experience as a student or staff member of the University of Manitoba preferred.
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others in cooperative ventures required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate in an articulate, knowledgeable, and diplomatic manner required.
Intermediate skills in the current versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Ability to relate to high school students in an effective manner is required.
Must be a dynamic and charismatic public speaker with significant related experience and the ability to present an upbeat, positive and energetic attitude is required.
Ability to learn quickly and retain new knowledge, be proactive in learning and to further common goals of the department is required.
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team is required.
Demonstrated experience in providing exceptional customer service is required.
Experience working in multicultural or diverse environments is required.
A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record as well full access to a reliable vehicle daily is required.
A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
OTHER JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to sit, stand, or drive for long periods of time.
Must be willing to receive required vaccinations for recruitment travel destinations.
Possess a valid Passport.
The ability to travel long distances solo via car or plane, both domestically and internationally, is required for 2-4 weeks at a time, multiple times per year.
Must be physically capable of performing duties as assigned, including driving and standing for lengthy periods and lifting display units and boxes weighing up to 15 kg.
The successful candidate will be asked to produce a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector’s search.
Due to the nature of recruitment work, particularly work with international markets on different time zones, some evening and weekend work will be required on occasion.
Previous experience in student recruitment positions preferred.
Key responsibilities
Recruitment Tasks:

Implements the University's enrolment management strategy of establishing meaningful contact with prospective students and counsellors by representing the University at rural and urban high schools, primarily within Manitoba but also in other Canadian provinces or abroad. Such visits will normally require making oral presentations to groups of students, supported with audio-visual material, presentation programs, and printed material as appropriate. Must be a dynamic and accomplished public speaker, very well versed in information on the University in general and more specifically, the entrance requirements and admissions process. Other visits will require setting up and attending displays, engaging in one-on-one advising and providing campus tours.
Acts as University spokesperson at career days, career symposiums and other public events.
Schedules and organizes visits to as many schools as possible in the University of Manitoba catchment area, while maximizing the number of contacts possible on each trip.
Promotes the visits to the schools prior to the events, does ongoing tracking and evaluation, and follows up with schools after the visit. When possible, arranges for repeat visits to schools for other opportunities such as in-person advising, parent nights, visits to junior high schools, etc.
Establishes, maintains and follows up on contacts made at the schools, using the CRM database of possible students
Promotes and provides on-campus tours for groups and individuals, including the coordination of participation from faculty and student representatives when appropriate.
Provides in-person, telephone, virtual and written advising service to prospective students and their families, teachers, etc.
Assists the Lead Recruitment Officer and Director of Student Recruitment in researching, planning, implementing and evaluating marketing strategies.
Participate in or lead special projects within the Office of Student Recruitment; these projects are often related to unit publications or the unit website.
Assistance with activities of the Admissions/Recruitment Office:

Assists the Events Coordinator at all on-campus special events.
Provides assistance to the recruitment team in meeting common goals of service to prospective applicants, applicants, and admitted students. This may include, but would not be limited to, providing information to prospective applicants, their families, teachers, and agents (telephone, in-person, virtual and e-mail inquiries), providing some follow-up services to new international applicants, packaging, and distributing printed material, and assisting in special projects as designated by the Lead Recruitment Officer or the Director of Student Recruitment. This type of work could normally fall in the times of the admission cycle when recruitment activities in the schools are limited.
May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
