About the role/s:

Selwyn District Council is excited to offer 8 internship opportunities to Lincoln University students from November 2026 through to February 2026. Details of each internship and preferred discipline of study are below.

Transportation Asset Data Improvement (2 x interns required) - Monday to Friday 9-5pm, with flexibility

This internship involves processing as built data from vested subdivisions and capital works projects into the Asset and Works management (AWM) database. Updating asset data in the AWM database to improve accuracy and completeness. Conducting field validation of asset data. Driving Selwyn's roads to collect video data and producing asset data summary reports and maps. You will have great IT skills to work with maps and databases, good attention to detail regarding data entry and the ability and willingness to drive and conduct field checks

Preferred discipline/study: Computer Science, Applied Computing, Geography, Engineering

Lease and Licence Management (1 x intern required) - Monday to Friday 9-5pm, with flexibility

This internship will support the development and trialling of a model for Lease and Licence Management. Selwyn District Council manages a range of lease and licence-to-occupy arrangements across community assets. We seek to develop a practical and sustainable operational model to improve the management, renewal, and enforcement of these agreements.

Preferred discipline/study: Bachelor of Land and Property Management (Urban Valuation and Property Management Major)

Online Booking Systems Project (2 x interns required) - Monday - Friday 8.30-5pm, with flexibility (some evening/weekend work maybe required)

This internship involves contributing to the next stage of our Online Booking Systems Project - Xplor. You will be supporting the successful rollout and implementation of bookable spaces. This will include Tango development / amendment, Assessment and entry of Venues and Events/Sports and Recreation spaces into the Xplor booking system, Reporting development and Training of team members.

Preferred discipline/study: Master of Applied Computing, Business Analyst

Place-Based Brand and Storytelling Activation (1 x intern required) - Monday to Friday 9-5pm, with flexibility

This internship supports the activation of Selwyn's place-based brand through storytelling, campaigning, and community engagement. You will help shape and deliver a summer campaign that celebrates the district's identity, local businesses, and visitor experiences. You will have an interest in sustainable tourism and community engagement.

Preferred discipline/study: Tourism, Business, Marketing, Design, Media or Web Development, Community Development or Public Policy, or related fields.

Community Engagement and Development Projects (1 x intern required) - Monday to Friday 9-5pm, with flexibility

This internship will be contributing to three key projects:

Event Attendee Insights and Surveying
Even Communications and Live Updates
Event Website Business Case
These initiatives aim to strengthen community connection, improve event planning and delivery, and support Selwyn's Waikirikiri Kia Tua Future Selwyn outcome "A Regenerative Economy" by encouraging local engagement and visitor participation. You will have an interest in community engagement, digital communication, and event experience design.

Preferred discipline/study: Marketing, Communications, Event Management, Tourism, Business, or related fields.

GIS Blue-Green Mapping (1x intern required) - Monday to Friday 9-5pm, with flexibility

This intern will gain GIS skills and experience across data collection best practice, ESRI mobile GIS apps, and configuration of online visualisation tools. The focus area is to develop a 'proof of concept' for combining, sharing, and publishing information. Work includes a literature search for research projects, field data collection and the opportunity to test different visualisation tools and, alongside the GIS team, to determine which tools best suit the desired outcome.

Preferred discipline/study: GIS (Geographic Information Systems)

About you:

You are a current Lincoln University Student in your second/third or final year of study, studying in the above related disciplines. You'll be motivated to learn and have an inquisitive mind. You'll be able to take direction but work autonomously at times to complete the task at hand.

Please note: these internships will be subject to 1 x reference check (from a recent employer/lecturer/tutor) and a ministry of justice check. These will be completed for the preferred students prior to the internship commencing.
