About the Role:

Are you creative, curious, and looking for a summer role where your ideas can make a real difference? The YMCA of Northern Alberta is looking for a Marketing & Communications Summer Assistant to help share the stories, people, and impact that make the YMCA a vital part of our community.

In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience in digital marketing, social media, storytelling, and content creation while learning how communications connect people to purpose in the non-profit sector. You’ll support campaigns that highlight YMCA programs, help manage online channels, and contribute to projects that strengthen our brand and community reach.

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in marketing, design, writing, or communications who’s excited to develop practical skills in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

This is a full time contract position from June 1, 2026 to August 21, 2026.

Responsibilities:

Support social media and digital communications by helping to curate and create social media content across all our channels.
Assist with marketing campaigns and events, helping to plan, promote, and capture content that showcases YMCA impact.
Gather and organize content such as photos, videos, and stories from YMCA programs and participants.
Develop digital skills in the workplace – such as understanding proper etiquette on various communication channels with supervisors and coworkers via email, instant messaging, texts, etc.
Help maintain the YMCA website and digital platforms, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and up to date.
Design or edit simple visual materials (e.g., posters, infographics, social graphics) using YMCA brand templates.
Contribute to internal communications, including staff newsletters and updates.
Support administrative tasks related to communications and marketing, such as maintaining media libraries and tracking campaign results.
Identify areas where technology can be integrated into processes to best streamline and enhance staff and member experiences - including digital, AI, or tech integrations.
Collaborate with the marketing team to brainstorm ideas, improve engagement, and share creative input.
Qualifications:

Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and aptitude to learn new systems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
Friendly, eager to learn, and passionate about the YMCA mission.
Previous marketing, communications or social media content creation experience is an asset but not required.
