ROLE PURPOSE

In this position you provide various support to clients within residential community setting to meet the clients emotional, personal and physical needs. We designed this position to foster learning of its incumbent and will provide hands-on learning opportunities.

Our Supportive Housing program provides safe and secure housing and wraparound support to people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. This program offers 24/7 support services that are tailored to the self-identified needs and goals of each resident.

STATUS
This is an exempt position.
These are temporary Summer 2026 positions for two different programs. The duration will be 8 weeks for 35 hours and 16 weeks for 40 hours per week respectively, starting immediately.
This position is open to applicants of all genders.
This position is subject to Connective receiving funding
HOURS
The specific hours of this position are to be determined based on the funding received.
Hours must be completed between Monday and Friday 9:00 am and 5:00 pm (as per grant rules).
All hours of this position will must be completed by Friday, August 28, 2026 (as per grant rules).

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Understanding of providing service to people with mental health challenges, intellectual disabilities and/or different learning abilities
Learn to develop programs tailored to the particular diverse needs of the individual served
Working with clients with a developmental disability and/or spectrum disorders, interaction with social agencies, experiencing psychiatric/personality disorders and history of conflict with the law
Gain experience in assessment, case/care plan development and implementation
MANDT Training (Crisis-Intervention)
Naloxone Training
Training 1:1 with Manager or designate 3-4 days – more provided if required
Review of all applicable Policy and Procedures
Systems training, student will be trained on all applicable systems to complete responsibilities
Will have an opportunity to take service sector related webinars and/or other trainings
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As a Tenant Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:
Participates in the assessment, goal setting, and program planning - such as Personal Service Plans - for individuals living semi independently.
Evaluates client needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of residents and their families.
Assists residents to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists residents with daily life skills, social skills, and/or behaviour management. Nurtures opportunities and assists residents with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, and pet care. Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour(s) to minimize potential harm to others and/or the public.
Maintains oversight of the building as required to mitigate conflict amongst residents and/or other persons accessing the property.
Identifies social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
Along with the other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
We seek candidates who meet the following qualifications and requirements:
Demonstrated ability to respond efficiently in crisis and escalated situations
Ability to work independently
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Post-Secondary educational background in Social Services/Criminology/Psychology
Permanent Residency or Canadian Citizenship, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Meet all the eligibility requirements as set out by the Canada Summer Grant
Professional or lived experience working with vulnerable populations facing multiple barriers
Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check/Enhanced Security Clearance and reference checks
Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
COMPENSATION
Compensation for this position will be $25.95.
