Located 472 kilometres north-west of Adelaide, South Australia, Carrapateena is part of our Minerals Australia operations, within the Copper South Australia province. The mine is located on the traditional land of the Kokatha people. Carrapateena produces copper concentrate and is one of the largest mining projects in South Australia in the last decade.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists to join the Copper South Australia (CuSA) Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Management (HSSEM) Team in the role of reporting through to the Manager HSSEM Carrapateena & Oak Dam.
As a part of the Carrapateena HSSEM team, you will be an instrumental player in leading and supporting radiation management initiatives, as well as improving the site radiation management plans for Carrapateena. You will identify and assess safety, health and environmental risks and recommend radiation management controls. You will also advise on health & safety matters in the workplace that potentially impact human health from radiation work-related sources.
This position will be working at the Carrapateena Mine Site on a 5/2 4/3 Monday to Friday Roster with flexible work arrangements where required.
In this role you will:
Provide leadership, coaching, strategic decision making, operational communication to internal and external customers on key radiation management decisions, plans and regulatory requirements
Anticipate, identify, assess, recommend and verify specific controls in relation to radiation management within the operation
Responsible for the reporting of Carrapateena radiation exposure and ensuring quality of radiation data
Recommend and support exposure control options and develop robust control strategies to reduce exposure in the operation
Be responsible for delivering radiation improvement projects or initiatives to meet internal and external requirements in collaboration with internal peers
Ensure the success of our radiation exposure reduction strategy by engaging and influencing senior leaders to progress radiation management business plan initiatives at Carrapateena
Communicate the radiation monitoring program as per the radiation management plan
Manage unexpected exposure events including hazard assessment and recommendation of immediate corrective actions to prevent further exposure
Support in the execution of radiation exposure related training and awareness packages
Execute the on-site radiation capability program
Lead a team of Radiation specialists

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Tertiary qualifications in Physics, Radiation Protection or other relevant fields
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in radiation leadership
Experience leading change and in delivering company-wide radiation related initiatives or projects in mining or other similar industries
Knowledge of radiation safety regulations set by EPA, ARPSANA, ICRP and IAEA
Ability to engage, coach and influence multiple stakeholders at varying levels of the organisation on radiation-related initiatives or matters
Practical experience in radiation safety, mining and energy, industry transformation, waste management, and regulatory policy and practice
Ability to lead a high performing technical team while also collaborating and engaging with a wider peer network in operations teams
Well-developed planning, organisational and time management skills
