Position Summary

The Supervisor, Recreation & Events is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and delivery of recreational programs and community events within the municipality. This role ensures programs and events meet community needs, promote active living, and enhance community engagement. The Supervisor provides leadership to recreation staff, supports operational planning, and ensures compliance with municipal policies and health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs and community events that promote active living and community engagement.
Guide and support recreation staff, volunteers, and event teams to ensure high-quality service delivery and operational efficiency.
Coordinate event logistics, including scheduling, resource allocation, vendor management, and on-site event supervision.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, risk management practices, and municipal policies in all recreational and event activities.
Collaborate with community groups, local organizations, and partners to enhance program offerings and foster community partnerships.
Address customer inquiries, feedback, and concerns in a professional and timely manner to ensure positive community relations.
Develop promotional strategies to increase participation in recreation programs and events, including social media and community outreach initiatives.
Monitor program performance, collect feedback, and prepare reports with recommendations for continuous improvement.
Support the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of recreation and event staff.
Position Requirements

Education & Certifications

Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services, Event Management, Community Development, or a related field.
Certification in recreation programming, event planning, or related leadership areas is recommended.
Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in recreation programming, event coordination, or related fields, including leadership experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Program Coordination: Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate recreation programs and community events.
Leadership: Proven ability to guide, mentor, and support teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Event Planning: Knowledge of event logistics, risk management, and community engagement strategies.
Budget Management: Experience in preparing and monitoring budgets, with a focus on cost efficiency.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for partner engagement, reporting, and marketing.
Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive relationships with participants, staff, and community partners.
Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations, identify challenges, and implement effective solutions.
Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups, community organizations, and internal teams.
Organizational Skills: Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a combination of office environments, recreation facilities, and outdoor event locations.
Irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required to support programs, events, and operational needs.
Physical demands may include lifting equipment, setting up for events, and working in varying weather conditions.
