Ko wai tātou | Who We Are:

Moana New Zealand is the largest Māori owned kaimoana and kai ora company in New Zealand. We are true guardians of the world’s most pristine and sustainably managed fisheries, with a deep sense of responsibility to our people and respect for kaimoana and kai ora.

We acknowledge our connection between ngā tangata me te taiao (people and environment) which are to be honoured for future generations. Led by tikanga and to be true to our value of kaitiakanga, we enable our people to be kaitiaki across our operations, and we work with partners to bring about change, collaborate to solve key sustainability challenges and build a business for the future.

He aha tāu e mahi ana | What You’ll Be doing:

Moana’s sustainability strategy is strongly focused on lightening our touch across operations. It focuses on plastics and packaging, reducing carbon emissions and reducing our harvest and farming footprints.

We have developed an in-house carbon emission dashboard that tracks our emission in real time using business intelligence software, PowerBI.

We believe everyone across our business has a part to play in ensuring Moana acts responsibly and in a way that is consistent with our values of manaakitanga, whakatipuranga, whakapapa and kaitiakitanga. To drive internal engagement in this space, we have developed a programme, He Koha, that rewards our people for sharing their ideas on how Moana can be better every day.

As an integral part of the Moana’s Sustainability Working Group, you will Chair quarterly meetings and assist in the implementation of projects and initiatives that help reduce Moana’s emissions and lighten our touch on the environment.

Key responsibilities:

Track and regularly report on Moana’s carbon emissions

Identify and implement projects and initiatives that will assist carbon reduction and Moana’s commitment to the 6Rs (reuse, recycle, refuse, rethink, repair and reduce)

Manage the internal sustainability rewards programme, He Koha

Track the use of plastics and packaging and continually seek more environmentally friendly options

Write policies that support the sustainability strategy

Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitu te haere |What you’ll need to be successful:

You will have a passion for the environment and be motivated to bring about meaningful change for our people, our product and our place. Ideally, this would be supported by a relevant tertiary qualification.

A high performer, with a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and a passion for learning, you will possess a natural curiosity, and a desire to develop yourself by embracing different experiences.

Confident, and with an effortless way of connecting and engaging with people, you will be highly organised, numerically astute, and have a strong attention to detail. Well-developed analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications essential.

If you are looking for an opportunity to contribute what you learn to your whānau, hapū or iwi this would be advantageous.

You must be living in NZ, legally able to work to be eligible for this role.
