About QIMR Berghofer:
QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Brain and Mental Health, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.
About the Information Technology Department:
The Information Technology Department provides specialist technology and project delivery support to enable QIMR Berghofer’s internationally competitive research programs. The team works closely with researchers and professional services to deliver secure, efficient and innovative IT solutions that support the Institute’s strategic objectives.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Enterprise Architect, the primary focus of this role is to ensure the optimum operation, availability, and integrity of the Institute’s IT systems.
This role is responsible for administering and supporting Windows and Linux server environments, including server virtualisation and associated storage systems. The position contributes to system backup and recovery activities, supports the maintenance of network infrastructure, and actively participates in the implementation, testing and simulation of business continuity and disaster recovery plans. The role also focuses on continuous improvement by developing, implementing and documenting practices that ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality network services. Key responsibilities include analysing and applying operating system updates, security patches and firmware, maintaining clear and accurate system documentation, and liaising with staff to support and promote Information Technology Services. All duties are performed in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety legislation and the Institute’s WHS policies and procedures.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will bring demonstrated experience administering server infrastructure, including virtualisation technologies such as Hyper-V, along with strong technical knowledge of Microsoft services including Exchange, DNS, DHCP, File and Print, and failover clustering. You will also have solid Linux system administration skills, including web services, scripting and integration with Active Directory, and a proven ability to implement IT systems that support business objectives in a multi-platform environment. Experience delivering a broad range of IT services within a complex organisation is essential, as are strong time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders, and the capacity to work both autonomously and collaboratively to deliver outcomes within organisational policies and strategic frameworks.
Please refer to the position description on the QIMR Berghofer Careers website for a full list of responsibilities and key selection criteria.
